Celtic fan ,watched the game and knew Rangers were going to pull it off the longer the game went on. We’ve had fans making multiple excuses over the years for why we aren’t competitive in Europenbut the simple fact of the matter is we have appointed Managers who aren’t pragmatic enough to step up to the challenge in Europe . We are too one dimensional and have no plan B. Rangers have proven 4 years out of 5 that with the proper approach you can step up on the European scene from Scotland. Not only proven it but rubber stamped it. It’s all one dominating the SPFL for a decade but the transition from domestic to Europe under Deila ,Rodgers and Postecoglou just hasn’t been good enough. Lennon for all his faults and failings like Strachan before him also proved that a pragmatic approach to setting sides up dependant on the strengths and weakness of the opponents is a far more productive way of solving the problem of stepping up. Rangers have cracked the puzzle and we need to look at how they achieve that. Same as Rangers have looked at how we have achieved success whilst making a profit. Between both approaches you will find the answer to remaking competitive whilst staying solvent. Well done and good luck in the Competition. Back tae watching Celtic in Europe a decade ago on European nights for me meanwhile.
@eaglekeeper760810 ай бұрын
I salute you mate, if only all old firm fans had such a truthful, unbiased outlook. The few years previous to Rangers financial issues in 2012 it was Rangers who were the dominant team in Scotland. Celtic directly benefited enormously from Rangers problems and have been able to cement their dominance financially as a result. Rangers have no alternative but to be pragmatic in their approach because we don’t have the money to outspend Celtic. Celtic and their fans on the other hand have become so arrogant and hubristic that it blights their ability to appropriately balance their approach in Europe. Rangers certainly do better with their backs against the wall.
@OJ999210 ай бұрын
But from a Rangers perspective it’s extremely frustrating to pull off great results in Europe but not be able to take care of the bread and butter domestically. Beating Dortmund 4-2 away then drawing with Dundee United three days later is a prime example of this.
@brownwarrior686710 ай бұрын
@@eaglekeeper7608 Celtic have been the dominant side since the turn of the millennium,we have won 17 of the 23 League Titles since then. The decade of overspending at Rangers coupled with the chequebook policy did for Rangers in 2012. These were self inflicted issues that were for the most part avoidable. Celtic almost came to a similar end in 1994 but for the arrival of Fergus McCann and the most successful Share Issue in British Football at the time. He rebuilt Celtic Park to a Capacity of 60,000 knowing that if the plan was successful Celtic would always have the upper hand when it came to Attendances every week from that day forward and so it proved to be. The fact he walked away with a £30m profit in 5 years is another story. I digress. What Happened to Rangers was not the fault of Celtic and although it has been a driving force for the change of approach at Celtic it has come at a cost on the park also. You see if you’re the top dog with zero challenge then when it comes to stepping up the levels it takes to compete in Europe Celtic haven’t been prepared. Rangers on the other hand being the chaser have had to work that bit harder and compete that bit more just to live with Celtic. So in a way it has given them a bit more resolve whereas with Celtic as you say more than a hint of arrogance or contempt has crept in. We aren’t alone in that of course because we’ve witnessed the same with Rangers in the 90’s Liverpool in the 80’s ,Man United and no doubt Man Citeh fans in England. Success breeds its own issues you see. These aren’t excuses for our poor showings of course but merely observations I’ve made over the decades watching the game both on and of the Park. I believe a balance point can be reached for Celtic and Rangers in regards to making profit and making headway in Europe but I think both Clubs could do worse than looking at each others positives and try negate or reduce our own respective negatives. Whilst we have under achieved in Europe Rangers finances have been shambolic since 2012. This upsurge in form in the Europa League has come at a massive financial hit for Rangers. They haven’t posted a single penny in profit in 10 years and have had losses in excess of £110m in the same time frame. Only multiple Share Issues (25) since 2018 have reduced those losses further. Celtic meanwhile have posted profits in the 10’s of Millions. First of all though we as a Club need to appoint a Manager proven both in Europe and in the market. I don’t think Brendan Rodgers is particularly good in either department though he is more than capable Domestically. I’ve had many a heated debate over the management styles under Lennon and Rodgers and maintain I would rather have the former in Europe than the latter. The current brand of football would bring a tear to a glass eye. Put it this way when you watch your biggest rival turn in a performance not once but twice v a side like Betis you have to admire the way they go about it. There’s no reason why a Club in our financial health should not be competing to a higher standard than we have been. None.

Well mate, fair play again for the extremely detailed and thoughtful response. I wouldn’t argue with anything you’ve said albeit Rangers have actually only last season posted a profit. ( In the grand scale of things though it was a solitary occurrence and don’t want to sound like semantics) I was referring to the 3 years in a row we won the title in 2009,10,11 just before the meltdown in terms of being the dominant team. I agree entirely with your assessment of the situation and the cyclical effects on football clubs. There are many reasons for Rangers arriving at the 2012 scenario and much of it has burnt deep resentment into the fanbase but ultimately the custodians of the club at that time were responsible for allowing things to get to that point. There are lots of sinister facts and fuckery that will emerge some day and there are many sinister beasts that will be exposed and punished for their actions. Celtic will ultimately start to click in Europe too if I’m being honest. You have the spine and ethos of a very good team and the financial resources to go up another gear. Rodger’s is extremely capable and will I believe make the necessary adjustments and signings to make a splash next season in Europe. That’s scary to admit for a Rangers fan, but that’s how I see it. Love your well thought out and dignified response chum. Nice touching base with decent people. 👏👍@@brownwarrior6867

Yes Jock Wallace was Sevilla manager for one season. Jock & his wife enjoyed going on Holiday to Spain but actually living in Spain & Spanish culture turned out to be a different story all together & he returned to Scotland with his wife after one season. Sevilla F.C actually have Scottish roots.if you watched Sam's vlog on The Sevilla Stadium tour you will see this. Real Betis originally played in blue but changed when one of the founders a student came to Glasgow & watch Celtic play he was inspired buy Celtic's stripes & floted the idea of the change to the other founders of Real Betis they all agreed on the change as green & white are the colours of The Andalusian flag but they tuse stripes not hoops that is how the story go's but if it's 100% true I do not know. But Sevilla 100% have Scottish roots Sevilla F.C being funded on burns night Hugh MacColl later Hugo McColl was the first Captain of Savilla & he is birred in Glasgow Edward Farquharson Johnston And was born in Newmill Elgin it was his idea to start a football club that club was Sevilla F.C. The third founder was of Anglo Spanish heratige his Mother was English his father Spanish. Also Sevilla had a number of Scottish players originally when they started out. Keep Safe.
