The VSI is explained a bit wrong here, since the static pressure line is connected both to the diaphragm and the case. The leak is in the case, and its purpose is to generate a pressure differential between the case and the diaphragm during climb or descend using the static pressure only. The pressure differential then makes the diaphragm to resize itself, which is finally translated to the corresponding vertical speed indication.

This is a late reply but figured I'd answer. If you're still on the ground and you notice serious issues with the airspeed indicator, then obviously you would NOT be allowed to fly the plane, nor should you have any desire to. If you're noticing inconsistencies with the airspeed indicator while in the air, then you should find the nearest airport and land immediately. The airspeed indicator can help you know if you're approaching the stall speed, so it's critical to have it working.

Where does the wind speed come in to this? You mean way up in the air there is no wind? If I install one of those on my roof and the window blows 70 miles/hr, how fast my house is moving?

It measures air velocity because that is what pilots are interested in as that is what creates lift and stops them falling out of the sky. Velocity is a vector, i.e. has direction. You get more lift flying into the wind than with a tail wind. So your air speed indicator would give a higher reading into the wind. If you ground speed is a 100knots and you have a 20knot headwind your air speed is 120knots. With a 20knot tail wind you would have an air speed of 80knots.

if you install one of these on your roof and there is a 70 mph wind blowing in to the pitot tube, your house does indeed have an airspeed of 70 mph, but its ground speed is 0. As James said, as pilots our primary concern is airspeed, because ground speed doesn't produce lift, airspeed does. If we have an airplane flying at 50 mph and we have a headwind of 50 mph, our ground speed is 0 but we are still creating lift and flying. I've done this a time or two, even flown backward. If I fly a small plane at 40 mph and have a headwind of 50 mph, I'm actually flying backward at 10 mph. And vice versa, if I am flying at 50 mph airspeed and have a 50 mph tailwind, my ground speed is 100 mph. Thats why flights traveling westbound always take longer than flights traveling eastbound (in the northern hemisphere) because traveling west we tend to have to fly against the jet stream, and east we fly with it. That's how wind comes in to play.

The airspeed indicator does not have an Android wafer, it has a diaphragm which is very different from an Android wafer. Shame you couldn’t look through the Instrument flying handbook before misinforming people.

So it seems that the altimeter has an aneroid wager which expands because it’s part of the pitot static system
