Is like people keep forgetting Hinz Ward had no ACL his entire career 🤔

He's an anomaly. The same way AP's recovery from his knee injury into an MVP year was an anomaly. You don't bet based on anomalies.

Last year I personally had three A+ drafts and this year I had two. The Steelers and the Eagles were A+ in both years. The only other A+ grade I’ve given the past two years was for the Colts’ draft in ‘23. They are putting something in the water in Pennsylvania because those boys draft different lol. The Steelers needed it too because I generally hated their drafts from 2018 to 2022 (they got some good players those years, usually on day 2, but their process was usually just bad imo). But I can’t overstate just how much I love the past two years of drafts from PIT. Herbig, Benton, Porter, and Wilson is an immense amount of talent to add to a defense in just two drafts. On top of that, I fully believe that by 2025 4/5 of your offensive line starters will have come from these two drafts and it’ll be a top 5-7 O-line in football. I had Troy Fautanu as a top 10 player and Mason McCormick as a 2nd round talent, along with Frazier. The ONLY worry I have about this draft is Frazier’s scheme fit in the run game. That’s it… what a freaking draft man

I didn't even mention Roman Wilson here and what a good pick that was. I had a late 2nd/early 3rd grade on him so he was also a good value, and given the Steeler's history I have no doubt he'll play like a 1st rounder lol.

You had some great thoughts here. Regarding Frazier, I think he will be able to use his wrestling leverage abilities to be a decent run blocker. He has some experienced guards to help him there too. Wilson will be a beast as a linebacker for us. We picked up a decent slot corner in the trade with the Panthers. Obviously not the same value as Diontae. But better to get the team chemistry right. Anyways, with Dante's decent coverage skills and Wilson's speed, the middle of the field will be dangerous for opposing QBs. So Porter on WR1. The middle of the field covered. That allows us to put a safety and a zone CB on WR2. The only thing I worry about is the spread offense. But TJ will keep the QB under pressure to make a half decent zone coverage effective, even with press. I expect to see Herbig some nickel and dime packages. He is not as effective as Highsmith on the pass rush. (I know his rates are insane and say otherwise, but rates drop from exhaustion). But he is definitely better in coverage. So a 3-3-5 or 2-3-6 in zone/man and the threat of either edges dropping is a hard scheme to counter when the edge rusher coming will make your decision window narrow.

Offensive line makes sense. 1. Protect QB. 2. Run game to take weight off QB, increase TOP, and to allow the defense to take a breath. There was a lot of attrition in the defense last year. TOP and rest impact injury attrition. TOP also impacts offensive playcalling, which goes back to the pressure on the QB to perform. 3. Take the physicality back. Remind people that the Steelers will punch you in the mouth. The run will not just wear the opposing defense out physically, it will give the O-line a chance to punish linebackers.

Yeah we have a hard ass working defense but you can’t rely on this to win championships.
@WordAte

@@markwhite5344 Agree. While defense wins championships like tires wins races, you need a decent offense like you need a functioning engine.

I don't know which one it was, but I read an incredibly detailed article that came to the conclusion that there were two ways of pass rushers - fast and strong ones. Moore was really good at going up against one of these and terrible agains the other. I can't really recall it anymore sadly. But whatever type Garrett is, is the type he is strong against.

I think Troy is a RT as well. People forget that while he played left side in college, it was for a lefty QB. He is a front side tackle, not a blind side tackle. Jones protected the blind side all through college. So I'm with ya, Jones at LT, Fautanu at RT

Payton has actually played better without it 😂 dude is not human. He may not have the career longevity others may have but would you take a guy that could and maybe will be an All-Pro for the majority of whatever career he will have because I definitely would.

Art looks happy as usual on draft day.Rnd 1 was not a reach the Washington tackle is Powerful good hands and can play both tackle spots with is so valuable. I liked the wide receiver from Michigan but I would be patient he needs some NFL strength training he'll see a lot more press coverage in the league and the condensed middle of field can be tough on rookies.They absolutely nailed it with Frazier from West Virginia so now your center is able to help on double teams traps and inside zone on each side.Kahns kitchen works and Arthur Smith brought the Microsoft

NC State fan here. Watch the highlights of Payton Wilson this past season with no ACL. Makes no difference in his case. Sure he can get hurt. Anyone can. But he is imo Jack Lambert 2.0... this man has that kind of motor. Who plays every single play like it's the last one he's ever going to play on Earth. Go Steelers go!!!
