They should have given him the 5th year, imo.

I think the “where the offense is heading” line is in reference to Arthur Smith’s new system and how it meshes with the entire offense. Smith’s running scheme has historically been very zone heavy, leaning a lot on wide zone runs. This is the opposite of what the Steelers oline and Najee have been successful with for essentially Najee’s whole career. I think Omar wants to see 1: how well does the oline zone block with the new pieces 2: how well does Najee perform on zone/outside zone runs, since this is something he has struggled with (however him slimming down shows he’s trying to fit this style better) 3: if both of these things struggle or fail, can/will Arthur Smith adapt his scheme to use more power run concepts, with more pin and pull designs ( something that Smith has barely used in his offenses to this point in his career). If Najee’s new weight can give him the suddenness, the new oline can give him the blocking, and Najee has a monster season running outside zone, I have no doubt that Omar will be willing to re-sign Najee for 10-11 million per year (barring any other contracts getting in the way such as the QB’s, Cam Heyward, or if GP gets a monster contract extension.)

Good points! Plus Jaylen's contract ends after this season too & if Justin Fields is the QB2025 (He'll rush 800 yds himself). They won't pay two RBs beyond rookie contracts

What did you think Omar was going to say to him? We don't want you back? I think Najee burned his bridge when he started talking to the press about stuff behind closed doors with Canada. Everybody that did that last year except Najee is gone. Steelers are going to let him walk and they are going to draft a RB on Day 2 next year. Mark my words.

Passing on the 5thyr option can be a win for both Harris and the team. All Harris has to do is ball. If Harris wants a big payday he has limited options otherwise. My opinion if pittsburgh had taken the 5th year option it possibly limits this season potential. Harris has played well and deserves a second contract, but the offer will be based on his finish of the current. I think for the organization it is a great motivational strategy for this season.

To me “not knowing which way the offense is heading” means Steelers may need to spend a large amount for QB next season so giving a RB that type of $ doesn’t make sense

It’s all about Warren and his success…Think undercover smack talking by Najee, he’s a beast but we know what’s going on…He needs to ball out and get the money, we’ve seen him have trouble with zone runs. This is going to be drama break out the popcorn. Najee with one-liners and Coach T with the Tomlinisms.

Khan saw what OBSERVANT fans saw. Observant fans don't look at stat sheets, they actually watch all the games. Najee is Bell without his heart. Warren is a Bettis-Parker hybrid, WITH HEART. The answer is right in front of your eyes. Najee under performs and complains about leadership. So now, with the leadership change, Najee is on the hot seat. Perform or leave.

@@SlickGC and I just said in my first post DON'T LOOK AT STATS. Stats lie, ask Hillary Clinton. This is coming from someone that literally aced college statistics and makes $200k in STEM. There's 17 games a season, not 10. So being just over 1000 yards doesn't mean he gets 100 or even 90 yards a game - which a good back would. Look at the 2004 season and see how many ground yards we averaged WEEKLY. The current steelers are no where near that. So he doesn't preform 5-6 games, healthy, and then gets 1000 yards for the season, but the team doesn't will the division as a result.... Yay??? Then look at the per carry averages, Warren runs harder. Khan knows Najee could be better, and that's why he didn't get a contract extension. Subjectivity, emotion and fuzzy math has nothing to do with it.
@defrank1870
@defrank1870 Ай бұрын
@@SlickGC Artificial Intelligence says Najee averages about 70 yards a game, when healthy running. That's GARBAGE. And that's why Khan didn't extend him. Warren beats him on per attempt averages too. Najee, despite natural talent, is a mental case, and it's impacting his performance. You're cherry picking highlights that mean nothing, when the CONSISTENT TREND is that he doesn't crack 100 yards weekly. And his per carry averages are below the #2 guy, DESPITE HOLES BEING MADE.

You dont need to overpay running backs. If we cant keep him at a reasonable number, we’ll roll with Jaylen and a rookie. The fanbase falls in love with players in a salary capped sport. Setting your little feelings up to get hurt. Stop being sheep and try to see the larger picture.

Everyone forgets that Jaylen's contract is up at the end of 2024 too. Najee & his agent feel he's worth $10-11 Million/Year.....plus Jaylen is due his first Pro-Contract. They won't be paying big$$$ for two RBs, especially if Justin Fields ends up being QB2025 (He'll rush 800 yds himself)
