In today's video, we faced an unexpected setback when the endgun of our irrigation pivot exploded, scattering pieces across the field. This critical component ensures that water reaches the farthest corners of our crops, so it's crucial to get it fixed as quickly as possible. Join us as we assess the damage, gather the broken parts, and work through the repair process to get the water flowing again. We'll share tips on troubleshooting, the tools needed for the job, and how to prevent this from happening in the future. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more behind-the-scenes looks at farm life!

On my galvanized pipe water fittings, I use teflon tape on the threads. Its not so much for sealing but to lube the threads and keep the fittings from seizing up making them MUCH easier to get off when they need to be replaced or worked on which is inevitable sometime in the next 20 years for my place.

Enjoying your videos. Good job keeping spares. That looks like a long pivot, what's the approximate length from the end to the control panel?

Nice repair job. And a wide range of controls you have there. Regarding your mainlines: do you pump from the chanell and maybe can show the pumps at a service or is there a central pump station for multiple firelds maintained by a cooperative or so?
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
We don’t have to do any maintenance on the pumps we just have to keep them oiled and there’s a pump for each field. The pump is either controlled from the pivot center or there’s a switch to turn it on hand to run the sprinklers in the corners.

Always hate being on the ladders for end guns, got some overhangs that are a bit nuts haha! Do you send your guns in locally to get rebuilt?
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
Yeah, we just take them into our irrigation store and they send them in for a rebuild

I'm guessing you've never spent much time on a farm, no offense intended. We just have a small place with just myself and 2 of my sons working in it and it is quite litteraly organized mess. I have 2 tables so full of parts and pieces from sprinkler parts, automotive parts, to pieces and specialty tools for building go karts and four wheelers. All this in just 1 of my 3 shops, my machine shop is worse bc it's the smallest. We clean it out when we can which generally equates to whenever the tractors or equipment start having to be worked on out in the parking are bc there is no room inside the shops to fit them. We will then make a converted effort, if we have time, to clean the shop up to at least be able to pull in equipment so we can work on it the rain.

How much water are you putting out with one pass on the pivot?
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
With one pass, it puts down 3/4 of an inch

I assumed that the end gun was to get all of the corners, but I guess the longer the pivot, the bigger the diameter of the circle and the harder it is for the end gun to get it all, and that's where the "handlines" as you call them, (called solid set here in UK when they were used before hose reels took over) help to get the last bits right in the corners? I was surprised how quick your potatoes are flowering at your altitude. What latitude are you at? Maybe you get longer days. We are 52 degrees just north of London.
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
Yeah we try to cover as much as we can but we usually need some headlines or altitude is 4600 feet and the latitude is 43°
@essexfarmer9610
@essexfarmer9610 Ай бұрын
Many thanks. Compared to my 300ft altitude and 52 lat, your altitude slows your crops down but southerly latitude offsets it and speeds things up. It must be a short but very punchy growing season. Interesting.
