My favorite female characters - Marge (Fargo), Muriel and Rhonda (Muriels Wedding), main cop in The Killing (original series), Willow, Tara, Drusilla and Faith (Buffy), Anna (This Life), Mrs Doyle (Father Ted), Bridget Gregory (The Last Seduction), Carmela Soprano (annoying, but so well written), Alex Christiansen (The Secret Life of Us), the first Aunt Viv (Fresh Prince), Yvonne Aitkens (Bad Girls), Bridget Jones, Queen Elizabeth (as played by Cate Blanchett), Carol (Sparkhouse) and Felice (Aimee and Jaguar). I don't know writers well, but my favorites are Margaret Atwood, Abi Morgan, Jane Espenson, Helen Fielding and Connie Booth

Melody Hobson, Ursula Burns, Misty Copeland, Dominique Dawes (gymnast throwback). Serena/Venus Williams (all the way from when they were wearing beads and only a few black people were even IN to tennis). I was 15 at that time and MAN it was so great to watch them at my age do it like it's never been done. Issa Rae FOR SURE #awkwardblackgirl just amazing to see her talent and the talent of her other content creators. Character wise: Clair from the Cosby Show first example that I can remember of a successful woman and wife dealing with real issues in a family. Living Single Entire Cast-just the whole dynamic of 4 friends living in a big city like NY (the ORIGINAL Sex and the City) main character Writes, best friend is outspoken and a Lawyer that finds it hard to be with men and lands on the most unlikely choice, another friend always searching for the perfect man, and her cousin. Annalise too just slays and not her for the BS.

At the risk of sounding rude, for a second there I thought you were forced into styling your locs into a newscaster bob with a matching blazer for this gig, but your looks at the end disproved that theory. I thought you'd gone corporate! (Okay, rudeness over.)
@chescaleigh
@chescaleigh 9 жыл бұрын
+teenage spaceland ha! not rude at all, i did a bunch of different hairstyles. I just opted for my hair up instead of down because some of my curls were acting funky, so it was easier to hide those rouge pieces by putting my hair up.

wow this sounds so great! I just wanna point one thing out tho: I think it's problematic to use the term "strong women". cus that indicates that not all women are strong. one would never use the same term for men and say these are films with "strong men" in the lead. just wanted to tell about my thoughts! and again I'm rly happy about the "weekend of women"! :)
@chescaleigh
@chescaleigh 9 жыл бұрын
+En Katt totally fair criticism. i think the goal in using "strong women" was an effort to contrast those stereotypical one dimensional roles we're used to seeing in Hollywood ie. vapid, "gold digging", violent, hyper sexual ect. The issue isn't sole that those characters exist (because of course women come in all differnt forms) but when those are the majority of roles out there for women, that does pose a problem. personally, i don't think not every female character is strong and that's ok. but when we have more diverse representations of women in movies and tv I think everyone wins. hope that makes sense and thanks for your feedback!

I'm so confused. Like, how did you go from giving loc tutorials to this? I've been watching you for years. This does not compute. Is it really because of "Shit White Girls Say"??? This is crazy. Happy for you but also just reeling. I'm sure you put in a lot of hard work but I'm real confused.
@chescaleigh
@chescaleigh 9 жыл бұрын
+AleyaMusic Ha! Well, long before loc tutorials and SWGSTBG I went to school for acting and worked as a stand up comedian. My goal has always been to work in tv. The ultimate dream is my own show. So I started making videos as a way to get my foot into the entertainment world when I found myself frustrated with the limited roles available. I had an agent before SWGSTBG but I rarely got sent on auditions and I didn't have time to perform once I moved to NY so I focused on making videos instead. After my video went viral I got an agent and since then I've been acting, writing and performing in web series and on tv for the past 3 years. I've also spoken at colleges, written articles and appeared on news programs on HLN, MSNBC, Yahoo and CNN. I've had a number of small parts on shows like Broad City and Totally Biased, I've filmed 4 cable tv pilots and written/consulted on a few shows. I developed a show at HBO which they passed on, but I've also spent the past 3 years pitching another television show I developed with my manager. i've worked very very hard, I just haven't publicly documented it because it's a lot of boring meetings and writing sessions. Plus, I'd rather wait til I have something to actually show you lol

+chescaleigh Well many congratulations. I'm over here stomping my little path and trying to get my music off the ground, hopefully your success plan can work for me too: Just do it and do it well until the momentum comes. :)
@chescaleigh
@chescaleigh 9 жыл бұрын
+AleyaMusic that's awesome! it takes time, but if you love what you're doing the journey doesn't feel as long. it's weird to think i've been on KZbin for almost 10 years, but it's taken this long to get here. for musicians, doing covers of popular songs with your own unique spin can be a great way to draw attention to your original music. it's worth considering if you haven't already.
