That’s really not the takeaway though. That’s like saying “haha those dumb doctors, considering all these possible causes for a symptom when there was only ONE real disease!” If you say at the beginning that your creative solution works and all new ideas are dumb that halts and murders the creative process. You NEED to come up with different ideas, consider which ones work and which don’t, and then ultimately pick the best one. They narrate this story in an obvious idea coming late fashion, to have a punchline sorta, but this whole process was actually neccessary despite the implication.

Okay but you think this is bad imagine what the people who had to animate Planes had to go through. Planes dont have trunks or antennas(sometimes) and are a fuck tons bigger then cars the animators were probably banging heads on desks for months. Hopefully they got paid a lot it being disney.

Bird nope, Planes was a Disney Toons studio production and was basically a cash in stright to DVD release. However when Disney had nothing to put in cinemas for I think the holidays at the time, so they put it in cinemas and it was a hit. Because of this, it had a pretty modest budget and low expectations on things like the video presented (Pixar put thought because they could, doubt Disney Toons did), so these issues were likely solved by the simplest of ideas.

Animating cars must have been, like, 10 times harder to animate than other movies. You have to make up a whole new way for the cars to move in a human-ish way but not move completely like a human. AND have all the animators animate the cars in the same style.

yes, as he said they were in the developing process (obviously) and had to come with alternatives to make cars act as living beings and the map thing was one of those but just like someone in the story asked "why does he have to show a map?", he can just say it and it worked pretty well.

Maybe McQueen doesn't have to be able to manipulate things at all. Have Mater do it with his tow hook. Crude but effective. In the world of Cars, maybe it's a huge advantage to be born (created? manufactured? not sure here) with some ability to manipulate the world around you. Entire industries could be available only to those that can handle tools. Maybe the rich can modify their chassis with tools like tow hooks or forklifts. That alone can draw parallels to human body image and cybernetics in the future. There's huge potential for what all this means in this world! Do those with manipulative instruments become part of a working class, or are they treated as skilled specialists? Are they highly in demand? What does the public think about those that choose to modify their chassis for these reasons? Just think! Wow!
