Google Pixel 3a was released 4 years ago, it has Snapdragon 670 with 4 gigs of RAM, and honestly if you do not play heavy games, this specs is good enough for everyday use. Its using Sony IMX363 sensor, a 12.2 megapixel sensor that's being used on flagship Pixel 5 and last generation Pixel 6a.
While Pixel 7a is the latest A-series phone from Google, and with Tensor Chip Gen 2 with 8 gigs of RAM (twice as Pixel 3a), this phone will argueably perform the same as Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. According to GSMArena, it is using Sony IMX787 sensor, a 64 megapixel sensor that will provide more detailed images compared to a typical 12 megapixel setup.
Pricing will be different as you will get 3a dirt cheap and 7a will probably be one of the most affordable smartphone with greaf cameras. This is a comparison 4 years in the making and I can tell you that there's a lot of changes that happened on Pixel phones but one thing remained the same great image quality from the cameras!

Newer Pixels kinda saturate images and the iphones go even a step ahead with skin smoothening and brightening on top of boosted colours. Also, It's quite amazing that IMX363 on Pixel 6A performs so close to Pixel 7A.

Also, unsolicited suggestions..😁 in comparative videos, it's very helpful to have the sequence of phones consistent in the whole video so the viewer doesn't have to keep up with reading the foot note of phone titles..as 3a performance is on the left in some parts and on the right on some others. I have a 3a before, my first pixel phone and 8 was really satisfied with the image wizardry then, my only gripe was it doesn't have a wide angle lens. I gave my 3a to my Kuya in Toronto. Now i have the pixel 6. .

Great video kabayan. I love how the older pixel 3a is able to keep up with the newest pixel 7a. That's one of the reasons why I held on to my old pixel 3xl although I have a pixel 6. Also personally I don't like using the active Stabilization mode the quality becomes worse l.

Just upgraded from 3a to 7. I was shocked at how little difference there was in picture quality. 3a is really, really ahead of his time. 3a nearly matches (and sometimes outperforms) 7 in perfect conditions. However, 7 shows its strenghts in suboptimal conditions (particular lightning, dark, etc). And 7 crushes 3a in the video category.

Good vid! It's May 2024. I'm here because my 3a NFC has just died and Google is giving me a 20% discount on a new phone. My 3a has been perfectly fine for everyday use, and I'm a bit bummed that I have to ditch it. I like your analysis. The 7 will be as much as I need, but because the 8 is out next week, and I look after my stuff, I'll probably go there.

I bought a 6a and sent it back. Worse in almost every way. The 7a doesn't look much better and the audio recording was terrible. My 3a is getting slow and the lack of OS updates are a concern but overall the 3a or 4a seem like better phones.
