It would be really cool if you guys provided as an add on a practise kit with some generic ribbon cables and wires for the beginner modders out there. I'm sure a person can find some old mainboard from another piece of junk or broken hardware to hone their soldering skills before starting on the actual console. I'm an electronics engineer, so this is all pretty basic stuff, but I've paid my dues (sometimes on very expensive components) For instance a few try's at "blob and swipe" on the fine pins of some of those IC's is a lot easier than trying to hit them individually. Plus it looks cleaner in the long run. One suggestion, not sure what the push button near the HDMI port does, but changing it to a 90 deg button would allow someone to add a small hole at the back of the console and actuate it with a paperclip if needed without having to open the enclosure.

For the sake of longevity I would put new thermal compound on the ICs and on every layer of interface that stacks on top of them for heat transfer. Then again I have a boatload of Grizzly that I use on everything that doesn't require non conductive thermal paste. I have GOT to get me one of these kits. Great guide!

Man I was so close own all the tools and figured I give it a shot, I enjoy soldering. Had everything soldered and plugged in for testing was happy to see it all come up was able to pull up OSD menu controller started acting weird. unplugged everything checked everything swapped a different controller same effect, decided to look at pins and add solder on RCP ribbon pins. And it all went downhill from there, now I need a new RCP ribbon and just gonna pay someone wasted money to learn lol.

You probably removed them with the heat sink. He unscrewed the heat sink and left the heat blocks. It is possible to lift the RDRAM if you don’t lift from the back or leave the block in place so this method is the safest. Still, removing that many screws to leave the heat block is unnecessary if you know to lift from the back. ;)

Hello Dan, I recently was lucky to get an n64 with the pixel fx n64 digital mod. The system works fine but when I play my games they don’t look as good as they do on the internet, their is some blurriness or maybe it’s just me, because I heard that it’s suppose to look really clear, all the hearts for the debug are there. I have the firmware update 2.1.4, the one where the title screen n64 is colored. So you think it’s my tv and I should get a better quality one. Any ideas, I believed it should look better as the console was not cheap at all. Thank you.

i wish the frame rate on n64 games could be fixed , someone told me on youtube it might be possible with n64 digital
@apedap3 жыл бұрын
The framerate is due to the limitations of the N64, only a handful of games will run 50/60 fps so if you want the best framerate I'd suggest getting an NTSC N64 and region modding it first.

He updated the guide to reflect that the controller 1 data connection on the PIF-NUS chip is different for later board revisions like NUS-CPU-08 and NUS-CPU-09. My brother says it may work with the same connection but won’t work without a game like the alternate connection will. Not sure about that because I recall it not working when I connected straight to the PIF on a later board rev.

Is there any way to repair a solder pad? I accidentally ripped out the reset pad. Everything works but I have to get my butt off the couch to switch games on my EverDrive
@johnny5552 жыл бұрын
Basically you need to carefully scrape away some of the mask around the pad, make a very fine spiral with very fine wire, plop it on the pad and re-cap it with solder. There's tons of videos. Difficulty 7/10

You can play NTSC and PAL with a flash cart but you will need something like UltraPIF to do original carts from both regions. UltraPIF already does the dual frequency output so I don’t know if you would let N64Digital handle that or not.

NUS-CPU-04
@emmettturner94523 жыл бұрын
@@ALI27727 Why do you say that? NUS-CPU-01 to NUS-CPU-04 were only recommended for the traditional RGB amp since they have an RGB-capable DAC/encoder chip on-board. The N64Digital completely bypasses that on any N64 by sourcing digital RGB and then converting that to digital HDMI and analog RGB, YPbPr, etc. This enables things like VI Deblur that you couldn’t get from a standard RGB amp..
