during the shinigami puzzle you can get a hint by feeding shinigami a solution key so theres your reminder/help there also the peacekeepers probably don't know who the real culprit is they just investigate, get shit done, and blame someone totally innocent

Some neat design details: The priest’s first form has a hammer hanging from his belt in addition to nail-covered shoulder pads and nail face paint, while his second form has straws dolls nailed to his back and shoulders. It’s also kind of funny how the Nail Man literally nails Noise down to block you. The Shinigami Puzzle in this part was responsible for my only two game overs in my playthrough. I was expecting either neck or head as they were the physical differences between the third victim and the others, but my mind just bluescreened when I saw 5 letters until almost the end of the second try, when it was too late to enter it all. There are actually several clues leading to the fact that the art gallery murder was done by someone else besides the different cause of death. From most obvious to least that I’ve noticed: -You don’t get a solution key about the Nail Man’s identity from solving the third room. -When solving the third room, Phantom Seth, who’s explicitly covering up the Nail Man’s crimes, doesn’t show up once. -The other crime scenes have at least 10 dolls nailed to the surrounding area, while the art gallery only has the one used in their locked room trick. The other culprit nailed paintings up in their place. -If you take the art gallery murder out of the crime timeline, a Nail Man killing happened once every 3 months. This is more reasonable of an MO than decreasing the time between crimes by a month each time.

24:57 This part of the rebuttal is actually a bit weird to me cuz I don't remember if it was confirmed that her arm had already been broken back then. It just feels like it would be more logical for the game to connect the broken arm to the fourth nail man case (because had it been broken after the crime, she'd probably be either at the hospital or having the day off) and not the second XPP Tho I guess the second crime has to rule out a suspect somehow x-x

Fun fact! The Nail Man killings reference Straw Doll rituals in which a person nails a straw doll to a tree with hair of someone they hate and after 7 days of doing the ritual the target dies

So the Nail Man is like the Reaper or the Professor from The Great Ace Attorney, as a vigilante serial killer who targets criminals, believing there was no other way. He's definitely still a murderer, and a coward who tried to throw all 3 of the other church people under the bus, but he's certainly a more sympathetic culprit than Fake Zilch was

If you guys want an explanation for the fingerprinting, I have one. Kanai ward is cut off from the world, and even under the control of the Amaterasu corporation they still lack most modern technology such as new cars. you can see on the road their are very old and dated cars and trucks, hence they would not have modern fingerprinting technology. Also as it said in the first chapter kanai ward is a dead zone meaning it is impossible for them to have a database of fingerprint records

ngl I dislike this chapter because it makes a lot of assumptions: - a non clergy couldn't have snuck to the incinerator (or stolen a key if necessary) - that the nun couldn't have faked a broken arm - that only THREE people were clergy at the church - and probably a few others...

​​@@TheUltimateRareI disagree, I think the nail man's identity is probably the games easiest mystery, The worshipper is way to obvious, the church assistant couldn't commit the first murder and helped with your investigation, and the nun literally has a broken arm, which leaves only the priest
