I bought one of these this last December. I just wanted an Ibanez with a fixed bridge for tooling around on. One mod I've made is I swapped the humbucker magnets for real ALNICO. Clarity improved, mission accomplished. I rolled the fretboard to knock off the edges, it's a fine guitar. You cannot find better for this money with any other new guitar. It's a "Swiss-army-knife" guitar. Does it all, does it well. I personally prefer and love the HH pickup configuration.

I bet if you could go back when you first got good at playing guitar, this Ibanez would have been the best thing since Van Halen 1977!

To see what you get for $400 today compared to $400 in 1992 (when I was 16) blows my mind. $400 back then still didn't get you a Japanese Ibanez, and a $400 guitar was more times than not a trainwreck. And the price might as well have been $1500 due to my $4.60 grocery job. So much better times for entry level guitars that don't play or sound like entry level!

You reminded me of being on break at my grocery store job in 1983 and seeing an ad in a guitar magazine for a Peavey T-60 for I think about $375. And me making $3.25/hour & trying to save for an old car, trying like hell to keep my first real girlfriend properly entertained, not to mention beer & Rush and AC/DC concert tickets etc etc. So, I never got that old Peavey...

Ibanez is the king among guitars at a budget. I have had 3 guitars for the past 10 years. An Ibanez RG3570z in Lazer Blue, an Ibanez Rg2228 in black metallic, and my most recent addition, and RgiXL7 in stained Ash. the only upgrade i wanna make is a 2027xl for my 7 string to have all prestiges. Ill never use another company for as long as I live though, and ive been using ibanez since the first year of playing guitar, 20 years ago.

Steve! I love these things - for me, no guitar does as much as the RG421 at this price point. Super versatile, super playable. People pass over them because of the 80s pointy guitar thing, but they are a fantastic design. Like you, I just end up playing this thing for long stretches of time because it's satisfying!

Love that Steve, I have 2 321's natural finish, no binding, 90's and they are awesome. I might have to check that guitar out and buy that after flipping some intermediate guitars I cleaned up.

I have an RGA42FM, which is basically the same guitar with an arched top. These guitars are just amazing value. There is nothing I feel that I sacrificed in buying this guitar. Except that I want another one added to the stable with an FR.

Very nice guitar I have been an Ibanez player for many many years left for a bit for PRS but I am back. Use to have an Ibanez RG 421 EXFM was a beautiful lavender burst. I know have a Ibanez S521 in ocean fade metallic and that's a great guitar.

I’m a lefty I got a Harley Benton that looks like that but gray I put $300 Seymour Duncan in it sounds great I also also took out the five way switch and put in a three-way. I like it better.

I have a 2000 model rg550 custom Japan model. The only thing I hate about it is the glossed neck. I like how the one you have has no finish on it for your hands to stick to. I will not buy a guitar anymore that has gloss necks and if I did. I'd tape it off and strip it down and put a wax on it instead. Not into hard tails much. I like my floyd rose style guitars. HH is alright, but I am a HSS player mostly these days. But for under $400, thats a great guitar! Bound neck as well. Upgrade the nut on that thing and maybe route it out for a floyd, I might get one.

Tell Ibanez im buying one my nephew has a seven string my first guitar was a RH5 something back in the day and it blew a strat in the water and it was old when I bought it but it kicked nutt playing anything

The finish is beautiful. Ihsve a 420 hpfm FR bridge. Almost got this one instead. Looking back Maybe I should have. Yhis ones way cheaper. TheF.R .. Was unnecessary overkill for me.

I'm not into " budget" guitars BUT I bought a Tease SBH-HD Series T Style TUMMY CUT 13.0K Alnico V Humbucker for $250 and it's a lot of guitar for the money. I got it because of Torsten's ( owner) view of customer service. He checks every guitar before the guitar is shipped. The neck on this guitar is amazing and the pickups, I'm totally shocked about a guitar for $250 be like this.... The website Tease Guitar.. any questions, contact him and he will get back with you. I spent 2 hours at the shop and Torsten check out guitars, in fact the pictures don't give the colors any justice. I got a black silver and purple guitar.... great value guitar.
