Rope on the arete: shorter distance from one to the second. both 5m rope in loops on the hand. If one is falling, the other has to jump in the opposite slope . therefore you need time to react. The one with more safety goes behind. Second variant, one at each slope parallel, but needs to ignore the given track.

i'm not a mountaineer but isn't that rope too long? if you fall down a high slope or into one of those serac don't you take your mate with you with all the speed you gain before the rope get in tension? by the way great video

For crossing a glacier the rope is just right. However for walking on a ridge (like at 2:30) you are right. The handling of the rope in this video is not correct.

Josef Niedermayer I would generally recommend getting off the rope altogether on the ridge and steep firn and keeping it for the glacier only. Many people walk like that and yet the chance of catching a fall of one of the members of the team is virtually zero. People feel safer when on a rope but that is surely not always the case. On a steep snow slope the rope increases the overall danger. On steep snow people should either be able to self-arrest or they should belay or they should free-solo with all the risks.

Seil zu lang auf dem Grat, keine Funktion, entweder kurz mit Schlingen in der Hand, oder ganz weglassen....Genau deswegen sind 3 Leute 2017 am Bernina abgestürzt...
