Usually when I hear rumors of a new Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, or Halloween movie in production, I don't even click on the article or video because ever since Hollywood began the horror remake trend, any sequels or prequals to any classic franchises died in one way or another while in production. Like you said, I'll believe it when I am in the theater or at my home watching it. I am currently sort of reluctant to hold out any hope for Halloween 2018...but maybe, maybe.

Another factor- and a major one- revolves around the legacy titles (Friday the 13th 1990 through Manhattan). Paramount wanted Friday back for the trickle-down effects from having a new film in theaters. Even just five years ago, home video sales would have increased significantly. In today's streaming world, however, there just isn't the same money to be made from the older films.

This movie has amazing potential. Scream and Friday the 13th as well as halloween were the most loved movies back 20 + years ago. The only reason as to why the game came out was to promote the new movie itself and to be promoted. Quite disappointed. I do believe that paramount shouldn't have cancelled it but instead rings. It wasn't successful and they took too long to make remakes or continuation movies.

I really think they should do a Crystal Lake survivors movie where people who survived encounters with Jason form a squad to take him out. They did something similar in the Nightmare on Elm Street comics back in the day. They also did it in Ash v. Freddy v. Jason.

I checked the calender for the next 2 years and there's 3 months with Friday the 13th. If some company (hope it's new line) gets the rights to the franchise at the end of this year and starts making it right away, my prediction is that the release date will be either July 13, 2018 or September 13, 2019.

The story should involve a lumber company getting ready to clear cut the Crystal Lake woods because the property has been devalued by stories of so many massacres. And then environmentalists believe the forest will be protected by a force of nature that won't let humans destroy and exploit the trees and displace the animals nor eventually frack there. Jason can then go crazy if teenagers try fracking there.

Wow the comments section for this vid is on fire. Like everyone else, I could not be more frustrated and disappointed that we would not have gotten SOMETHING before these rights expired. The only saving grace is that like you Piz, I was incredibly pessimistic as to whether anything would happen given the totally wrong approach that the producers were taking to this film and just overthinking perhaps the simplest plot structure of any major movie franchise. I think B Movie Mike said it best a few episodes of Sausage Factory ago when he said "Friday the 13th is like Pepperoni Pizza, when I order a Pepperoni Pizza it's because I know what I like and I want a Pepperoni Pizza, not something else". Just give us a straightforward F13 movie set in the woods with some drunken teens. No Roy, no telekenesis, no cruise boat, no space and definitely no Hell. We want Jason, a hockey mask, a machete, a campground, dumb teens and the rest is unimportant. Unfortunately it seems the producers don't really seem to understand this very obvious aspect of the F13 fanbase that the simpler, dumber and more straightforward the movie is, the more people will enjoy it. We can throw out all sorts of theories as to why it got cancelled at this juncture (I'm sure there were many reasons) but the fact that they would just not at the very least have done a loose remake of FI3 IV or VI if they were truly out of ideas is a huge failure. Or just bring back Roy even, I don't care, whatever, just give me SOMETHING. Such a huge failure on everyone's part who had any association with this project. I guess now the game gets the sole spotlight to keep this franchise going for a new generation.

I think the studios of today want a higher concept or a gimmick to tack on to the movie in order to make it more accessible to the public and not just F13 fans. So, they explore tacking whatever the latest popular gimmick is (found footage, 3D, etc.). They also don't want to make a 5 million dollar movie that will return them 25 or 30 million dollars. They want to make a 25 or 30 million dollar movie that will return them 100 million dollars.

So, what this guys says the reason this film was cancelled according to his source was....1. Nobody would remember who Jason Vhorhees was (?????????) 2. It was not going to be done on time and completed properly. 3. There is legal issues between the original screenwriter of friday the 13th and another company over the rights to the merchandise. ......Well...I agree that if they are not going to do it right then LEAVE IT BE! I would rather remember it fondly, than to remember the horrible "RE-MAKES" they make for some of these movies. On the other hand, the new halloween movie with the original director John Carpenter ought to be good. But until it comes out, who knows how it will do either? Slasher films are not given the budgets they once had....but I think for Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street they DESERVE a good budget with good actors and screenwriters. Actually the rights and the license to the Friday the13th franchise will revert back to the original people which is Mr.Sean S.Cunningham and Mr.Victor Miller and this all will happen between June or July of 2018 due to the f13 lawsuit that they are currently involved in and the deal between Paramount Pictures and New Line Cinema could be in trouble when that happens.

I think the point you made about the timeframe and the rights expiration is probably what is killing it. The 2009 one made way more than it cost. See IMDB for the $ totals. F13 is a way better franchise than Rings. 12 movies compared to two. Also, this would be the EPIC #13. It's what everyone has talked about ever since the 5th movie came out from what I can recall. That there would be 13 movies possibly. The hype of this being the 13th of F13, people would flock to it, especially if it was released on October Friday the 13th 2017. The date alone as well as Halloween season, would draw the attendance. Probably a record attendance for the horror genre.

Fans wanted Steve Miners and Sean Cunningham version remade. These writers kept doing stupid story lines ...they were not the original creators. You can't rewrite a CLASSIC Story. Fans want Mrs V and hooded Jason...then the mask. It's not hard to figure out another mask Jason movie is going to bomb. Remake the first 4...like it is intended...and make 100 million each. Stop looking into Fri the 13th comic books and start realizing that FRI the 13th fans are multi generational. So it would be wise to remake the original then go into Hooded Jason and then mask jason. They failed with putting 3 fri the 13th stories in one movie in 2009...and then they tried to do 3 killers..( one being Elias Voorhees ) in the new one. Is there no talent to know a classic. All they have to do is recreate the murders that were not shown in the original then a alternate ending that involves Mrs V attacking the camp owner Steve Christy after e returns to camp and finds his counselors dead.( Kane Hodder would be a great Steve Christy) Do an extended chase scene with more action and more drama. Anything outside the first 3 original classics will fail..... Yes, we did see this coming. These writers and new fans have no spirit of FRI the 13th. Thank God it failed...any new jason movie or rewrite of different versions of the classic will fail.

Does Friday the 13th really need to be made? I mean, they had 12 movies. The first 4 were good, but then 5-10... not so amazing. Freddy Vs Jason wasn't too bad either, but could have been better. The remake wasn't horrible, but tons of people complained. So, why do we need a 13th Friday the 13th movie?
