Pizza Tower Speedrun Tutorial: Fast Fall (Peppino & Noise)

Ever seen speedrunners fall to the ground in what looks like an instant? Well today I'm going to teach you how to do it!
This video teaches you how to perform fast falls in Pizza Tower, this technique allowing you to, well, fall faster with a very simple bind or an alternative wall buffer, making it perhaps the most important technique to learn before speedrunning the game

If you're looking to optimize your fast-falls, you can start your fast-fall just BEFORE you go over the pit you want to fall into. This way, you enter the pit at a greater downward velocity. The (work-in-progess) TAS does this whenever it can. I also (try to) do this in my Bloodsauce 101% run here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5_NZWh9fcuasKM Something I've learned since doing that run is that if you intend to fast-fall into "grab-cancel -> grab-slide", to minimize the risk of performing a body slam, you can hold your fast-fall button then simply grab in the other direction to grab-slide as soon as you hit the floor. This saved me a lot of unnecessary Mart 1 resets when running Oregano Desert.

If you stop to think about it, those tricks aren't a big deal nowadays, since we have multiple keybinds..... But i can only imagine speedrunners when there was no multi-keybind.

yeah we relied on wall buffered fastfalls as much as we could back then, bloodsauce was way less fun too since every fastfall you attempted had to be frame perfect besides a few wall buffered ones lol

@@cocoasprinklez im talking about all tech in general, high jump and etc. Updoor would be sometimes hard like in ancient cheese, and insta-turn isn't hard at all.

@@rogueplayer8192 updoor was around the same level of difficulty pre-multibinds, sure a high jump bind helps with frame 1 mach uppercuts but that precision was never necessarily needed. insta-turns are the exact same difficulty but adding run as a back key is pretty handy for making pause buffers quicker

So for some reason when I use the multi bind for Peppino it works, but when I use it for Noise it doesn't, or at least if it does it's not as visually telling as Peppino doing it

really cool to learn about this! ive been semi-running the game in my own time for fun. unfortunate that it seems to be a keyboard trick as ive only ever played with a controller as it just feels more natural to me, but it is what it is. neat regardless!

its not as useful for noise, since he has the tornado, but fast falls work just fine as him

If you have directional groundpound turned off, you'll need to bind the groundpound input to your fast-fall button as that is the input for Noise's drill. NOT down. Since the Noise can use drill to fall quickly, fast-falls are usually used either as a dive substitute or for situations where you need to fall but also need to be able to perform other actions immediately.

its an OBS input overlay, i think you can find the plugin itself by searching on google for "input overlay" and the pizza tower speedrun.com page should have the input overlay in the resources tab

thats a mach cancel, not a fastfall. mach cancels do cancel your horizontal speed but you fall at the same rate as you usually would if in regular freefall. however, fastfalls immediately set your y-speed to 12 and the same acceleration rate applies, allowing you to reach the ground much faster
