LYRICS:
Absence.
Cold moon comes down curdling
through reddenin’ leaves,
falling, falling.
Know you every tear in these woods.
Know you every place of good and not-good.
’Tween sleep and wake and bellyache,
each path unhealed and stumpied.
Charkened embers. The end of summer.
Reeve the river’s tongue of silver -
Come away love and leave your wandering …
Just a noiseless noise,
just a gawly girl,
just a bogus boy -
Trapes the fields of feasen
to a chammer of not-sleeping.
Go home now love, leave your wandering …

well polly i finally got around to soaking in your newest album. it's like you took the spirit behind that uncanny non-solo from the middle of down by the water and elaborated it into an entire album. count me in. it's another trip into a vivid imaginary landscape and delivered again on the most novel although never contrived terms. this is a pop album. what a thing for a new listener to discover you through in 2024. you've captured something here to do with the immense wonder and horror of a child's world i believe. some years younger than your other protagonists though. the instrumental sound is like the shadowplay from moonlit trees across the walls of a child's bedroom, and the child derives all kinds of imaginary things from those mere shadows. that's how this all sounds... implied, overheard, glimpsed through the cracks as a curious child does, but then it all stirs into something otherworldly as they piece it together. this one is very English and i imagine there's a lot to unpack here, especially given your companion poem. for now i just awe at you and your pals' endless quest to find new sounds, and let the images seep in like blood through a quaint needlepoint. although i inside doesn't have the same "hey everyone look at what instrument polly learned to play this time" specificity of some other stuff, i can feel the care that went into making this sound elusive and strange--plenty of recording from the bottom of a stairwell through a milk carton i'm sure. compared to other records i'm spatially dislocated here as to where sounds are coming from even more so than uh huh her or dance hall; i think maybe that's the point. i feel that you have also denuded the recordings of your voice in an unfamiliar way here, although you have never demonstrated a more impressive mastery of that voice than here. it's really something after a lifetime of evolving it. that voice sits at the center of a pretty colossal artistic project, which is how i view your inspired approach to pop--just the way a painter sees the blank canvas. anyway, i heard that you were troubled by how the hope six album got dissed. nevermind all that. that one is going to age very well, sadly, in this crumbling world. just like all of them are pretty immense and enduring. you stay brave now and please don't ever stop making music. you're just too damn good at it.

This instantly brings to mind the words of Emerson: “Great works of art have no more affecting lesson for us than this. They teach us to abide by our spontaneous impression with good-humored inflexibility then most when the whole cry of voices is on the other side. Else, to-morrow a stranger will say with masterly good sense precisely what we have thought and felt all the time, and we shall be forced to take with shame our own opinion from another.” Thanks for being true to yourself, PJ, and I very gladly take my opinion from you this time. It sounds very good coming from you.

@@NathanHautain I am on the complete other end of the spectrum to both of you as I’m a fan of everything she’s released. The only album of hers I don’t really listen to is stories because it’s not really my taste but it’s still a classic. I don’t think she’s released anything below an 8. In my opinion she’s the most consistent artist we have.

Объясните пожалуйста, за что люди так любят ее творчество? Я прослушал все ее песни и абсолютно не понимаю хвалебных отзывов, по мне так ни чем не примечательная музыка. Ответьте если не сложно.

@@Ukrainian_Gypsy_BeaterShe either moves your soul or she doesn't. I don't know anyone who knows of her art and is like "meh". I have been listening to her for over 20 years and she's way ahead of time. Her music gives my inner child comfort that no other music has ever done before.
