I was young when To Bring You My Love came out, and it scared the hell out of me but yet kept bringing me back. Then this dropped when I was in college, and had an opposite reaction. Without any of the bombast I usually expect of her, she kept scaring, bewildering me and bringing back for more. Many years later, Is This Desire is my most beloved albums of hers.

@borednerd21005 жыл бұрын
What's it about exactly?
@bodycide11 ай бұрын
@@borednerd2100 I think on the basic level "The Wind" is about a woman - Catherine but it could anyone - who voluntarily choose to isolate herself from people, and more specifically from men, because her only desire (is it desire?) is to devote herself to God. She is becoming an anchoret, which implies she's already "died to the world". Back to the song's lyrics, I think Polly/the narrator romanticizes, or daydream about, the idea of mystical marriage... which could be perceive to the some extant as an "rebel act" - I mean, how can be that Catherine, this smart, beautiful and sexual woman, renounce any earthly goods, she's (no more) interested in flesh and bones men - What a waste! But I think there's also suggested the other side of a story? a tale (?): it seems like Catherine herself finds it as rather joyful experience (in ancient myths gods - as immaterial deities - always appear to mortals "in disguise" so the wind might represent here God. I mentioned here before about the idea of mystical marriage - and some female mystics can experience God in erotic, sensual way. I try to explain as best as I can my interpretation of this song. One of my very fav songs ever written.

I love this video. It's full of juxtapositions, & anomalies that make sense. What has St. Catherine got to do with Dorset? What has Dorset got to do with New York? Who is the girl who looks like a distorted version of PJ? Why? It makes sense in the way that dreams do - is that it? She's drifted off in the cab? I love the disgruntled expression on her face when the cop rattles her window. You can almost "hear" her West country accent as she swears at him in her head. Then the street voices end the video. More juxtaposition ... Whatever, the video works for me. P.S. I like the, totally different, live version just as much.

Gave up trying to interpret music videos a long time ago. They are mostly unscripted, inconsistent symbolic pastiche. However, PJ is so far above the crowd, so I wonder ...
