But El Debarge is 80s music, he has never been 70s music... I think you confuse him with Bobby Debarge who was in the group Switch (70s)... El Debarge didn't release any albums in the 70s, El's 1st album is "the debarges" (the debut album of El, and of the group DeBarge, El was the lead singer) released in 1981.... And cassette tapes represents the 80s, because that's when the walkman came out, people used walkman with cassette tapes in the 80s not 70s, this is 80s visuals/colors... Even Morton's varsity jacket is totally 80s! The first 3 seconds of the song, is borrowing the first beats from DeBarge's 1982 hit "i like it".
