I'll share a bad KZbin habit: Watching a PJ video all the way to the end to find out the point PJ was making, only to find out that PJ has no point to make. But, if you're really engrossed in an immersive video, then, "you're having fun; time not wasted."

Reminds me of a roommate I once had who kept trying to discover the point of every Monty Python sketch. I insisted that the didn't all have points, that some were just silly. And he maintained that since he could discern the point of some of them, the others MUST also have points.

I get too emotionally attatched to my support/side characters if they're on my side- but for some reason I choose to like the characters that the video game designers/writers don't seem to care about-- so they either: A.) Kill them off or B.) Just slowly make them disappear from the plot, thinking that no one will notice. I notice... everytime.. don't do that to me XD

With them I remember exactly what I was doing, when I last played it, what I was trying to do (including my planned future levelling for my characters in RPGs) and everything that is still of note that has happened in the game up to that point. Sometimes I wonder if there would be a better use of my memory, but then I remind myself that it's my favourite thing to do (even more than actually playing the games) and I continue to add more games to the list. Not really any gaming-specific ones but your Self Inflicted Game Incompletion reminded me of something vaguely related. With some really good TV series (usually comedies) I sometimes do the polar opposite of that. The first few times I watch through it I multitask (i.e. playing video games), deliberately not absorbing ever funny line or visual gag, just so I can pick up new things on subsequent viewings. It's my own weird way of savoring it. The example that springs to mind is playing the Crash Bandicoot trilogy while watching Community. It's really quite sick.

I get really caught up in nostalgia too, except that my nostalgia habit combines with the self-inflicted not-finishing-a-game habit. I start a game (like Ocarina of Time) and then I get to the Water Temple or the Shadow Temple... basically any part that is too hard or that creeps me out... and I get nostalgic for the beginning of the game and I start a new save file. To start all over again. I still haven't finished that game... I suck.

My channel is a gaming channel so whenever I get a new game I always feel guilty about not recording it, so I end up with a lot of them sitting around for AGES. And instead of playing the games I really want to experience, I end up playing stuff like Minecraft, Banished, Sims 3, and Skyrim. I recently played Dishonored without recording it, and I absolutely LOVED it. But I feel bad for not recording it, because I liked it so much and I think my viewers would've enjoyed it too. Also, not saving. I always forget to save and it sucks.

Play with a friend, on co-op or take turns or communicate troughout it. Or just have someone watch you play. That way you could be having even more fun and feel the need to finish it because of your friend. I play wiiu platformers with my brother and we complete them in a weekend. And then the next weekend we dig through all the secrets.
