Yes it can be looked at philosophically in the sense that it is true that naturally when you leave your house and come back the furniture is there, but it is not proven. That is where the quantum physics aspect comes in and the whole reason for the experiment. How can you truly know something stays out when it is unobserved and doesn't move/ disappear.

Schrodinger proposed the cat analogy to explain how things worked in quantum mechanics. In the quantum world, everything is probabilistic and can, in fact, assume more than one state (i.e. quantum computers are based on this, while, in normal computers, you can only have a single position for a bit, 1 or 0, qbits (quantum bits) can represent both a 1 and a 0). The purpose of the experiment is to show the differences between the macro and micro worlds and it does really well in portraying the "counter-intuitiveness" of quantum mechanics. It doesn't really intend to make a real life conclusion about a cat.

The state of the element and whether it has decayed enough to kill the cat is undetermined and can only be quantified in a certain state based on observations.
