Woody, Wyoming produces the majority of coal in the United states. West Virginia has very few electoral votes and is not an integral state. And pennsylvania hasn't been a large player in coal in decades. The state does not, and has not voted left or right on the presidents ability to pander to a small industry in one of the most populous states in the country. It is ludicrous to assert that WV and PA's coal industries are influencing the presidential election.

Regarding global warming, technology is advancing so quickly, energy and pollution issues will likely be solved in the near future. Scientists have recently found bacteria and fungi that feed on plastics, and have found a way to absorb atmospheric carbon faster than plants can. We’ll either switch to widespread nuclear energy which is clean, and batteries will become efficient enough to store other forms of energy so there is less energy loss in processes. For perspective, the majority of people were still traveling by horse/buggy 100 years ago, and today we have recreational space flight. In 100 more years, man made global warming will be a non issue.

the problem isn't extracting the carbon from the atmosphere. the problem is what we do with it afterwards, at this point whatever doesn't get reused gets buried like nuclear waste. so the carbon is still there, once carbon nanotube technology breaks through and we have a mass requirement for raw carbon it will be more efficient.

You're usually pretty informed, Kyle. But the military is extremely far from being America's biggest source of pollution. It's hard to pin down precisely but from the best research I've seen. The biggest contributors are manufacturing and livestock emissions. And actually, China is rolling back steel production, putting pressure on people to stop cooking with coal, reducing coal energy-production and replacing it with wind and solar options, requiring cleaner gasoline and diesel, and emissions standards on vehicles are set to take place in 2020 that are supposedly comparable to American and European laws.

I get Kyle's sentiment on the other countries bot following through but, especially Pakistan and India, they're feeling the most extreme effects of it and are acting upon it. China is literally using green tech as a business model to take over a lot of the 3rd world by building them green infrastructure.
