PKM vs MK9 Bruen | Best LMG in Warzone?

You all know the drill: Here’s the text guide for the MK9 Bruen and PKM. RoF/Damage/DPS (0:35 - 1:45) -Both have a fire rate at 759 RPM. -Both have a damage to the upper torso of 34 and drops to 30, but the Bruen has a third drop off at 24. -DPS between both is 430 to 380, but because of the Bruen’s 3rd damage range it drops out to 304 at extreme ranges. -Subsequently the base TTK on the PKM is 158-237 ms, whereas the Bruen has a 158-316 ms TTK w/o plates. -With three plates in the equation, the PKM will down someone in 553-632 ms. The Bruen will down them in 553-791 ms. Ranges (1:45 - 3:00) - (1:50) The PKM has a slight advantage in its 3 shot kill range, and a bigger advantage outside 65 meters, where the Bruen drops to its third range. - (2:19) Both PKM barrels are superior to the Bruen’s barrels in the 3 hit department. That said the Bruen’s barrels do offer an increased 4 shot range, which can be very useful. Base Handling (3:00 - 3:44) - Without attachments, the PKM aims down sights at 434 ms, whilst the Bruen is relegated to 450 ms. - However, the Bruen reloads in 4.71 seconds, noticably faster than the PKM’s slow 6.77 second top-off. - In addition, the Bruen moves at 90% of the base speed compared to the PKM’s 88%. Bruen’s 60 Mag (3:44 - 4:42) - The Bruen ADSes at 400 ms with the 60 round mag. - Obviously, as advertised, the 60 round mag drops your count by 40 bullets from its base 100 round box. - The Bruen gets a huge reload buff, dropping to 1.69 seconds to top off. - Finally, the Bruen moves at a spright 93%. - Just remember this isn’t free; you’ll be utilizing an attachment slot to use the mags. Base Recoil (4:43 - 5:19) - With just 30 rounds, the PKM kicks up vertically and Ace claims it bounces around a bit more. - Just keep in mind the Bruen seems to have a strange curve effect, where it goes off to the right for a little bit just before breaking left. - NOTE: Just like with the M4/RAM/M13 comparison, I will point out that you can always “burst fire” your weapon to reset the recoil patterns. Firing the Bruen in bursts should mean it will always go up and to the right, and you won’t have to deal with the leftwards curveball as long as you keep your bursts short enough. Iron Sights (5:19 - 5:31) - This is highly subjective, so just look at this timestamp. Bolt Delay (5:31 - 6:14) - Bolt Delay, for those who don’t know, just means how long it takes between you pulling the “trigger” on your gun and it firing away. - The PKM has about 50 milliseconds’ worth of delay, whereas the Bruen seems to have no delay. - Ace retested the Bruen for this video, so IW has NOT stealth nerfed the Bruen as of the making of this video. Big Barrel Boosts (6:14 - 7:33) - The 26.9” PKM barrel and 26.8” Bruen barrels both increase range by 20%. - The PKM with the giant barrel drops down to a 484 ms ADS speed, whilst the Bruen has a miserable 517 ms time! - Both barrels drop your mobility by 1%. - (6:52) The recoil on the PKM seems to get even WORSE with this barrel, despite its advertising. The Bruen gets a slight bonus to recoil control, though it’s really not that noticeable. Medium Barrel Boosts (7:33 - 8:10) - The 25.9” PKM barrel is SUPERIOR to its big counterpart, with a 25% bonus. The 23” barrel stays the same at a 20% bonus. - The PKM, once again, is the winner; at 467 ms versus the Bruen’s 484 ms, you get a frame or two (@ 60 FPS) to shave off. - However, the Bruen’s movement speed is NOT affected by the medium barrel; the PKM still loses 1% of its mobility. Attachment Combos (8:10 - 9:46) - (8:26) Ace runs the PKM with a Monolithic Suppressor, the 25.9” Heavy Barrel, a Tac Laser, the unique Snatch Grip, and Sleight of Hand. WIth this, your ADS speed is 384 milliseconds, likely thanks to the Tac Laser’s percentage-based ADS speed enhancement. - (8:58) Ace’s Bruen utilizes a Mono Supressor, the 23” Horizon Barrel, a Tac Laser, the Skeleton Stock, and the 60 round mag. The Bruen also has a 384 ms ADS speed with this. - (9:33) With these setups, both are pretty damn solid in terms of recoil. You can see for yourself here. Conclusion (9:46 - End) - Both are pretty much interchangeable, top-tier LMGs. They’ll chomp down on people’s armor without an end! - However, the PKM’s handling is overall pretty slow. Yes, you get 100 rounds, but that reload can be brutal if you’re caught with your pants down. - Conversely, the Bruen is much more mobile than the PKM. However, once you get past 65 meters, the Bruen’s damage will take another hit, and thus won’t be hitting as hard past that. - Most engagements, according to Ace, will reach out to 80 meters tops... Then again, why would you fire beyond that unless you don’t have a sniper rifle? - Either way, Ace prefers the Bruen more for the mobility. If you need a LMG that can still hit hard at a distance, the PKM might still be for you.

*Quick* *tip* *for* *PKM* *users* : The *Old Country* blueprint has the best iron sights for the PKM and imo is one of the best iron sights in the game (up there with the grua’s archangel barrel iron sights). The blueprint comes from the Mother Russia bundle in the store so you have to buy it, which is unfortunate :/ But it basically removes the entire hind section of the bulky gun sights and only leaves the tip “v” shape iron sights at the end of all the barrel variants. It’s extremely minimal and super easy to acquire targets and hit your shots at range. It’s honestly a night and day difference in how the PKM performs/feels, and I highly recommend trying it out. Hope this helps my fellow PKM users! GL *Edit* : Lots of helpful people have pointed out that the *Sunset* *Hue* S4 blueprint and *Standard* *Issue* free mission blueprint offer similar open iron sights without having to purchase anything from the store. The PKM is my favorite LMG in the game where it has a huge 100 round magazine, but I can't go wrong with using the Mk9 Bruen where I can equip attachments that effect ADS times in order to make it agile.

Yeah it's a close call for me, but I'm going with the Bruen right now exclusively for the 60 round mag attachment. If PKM had that attachment it would win hands down with its better range but for me but the better ADS, movement speed, and most importantly avoiding that awful reload time for the PKM is just too good to pass up, even if the PKM has the better damage profile at range. Also subjectively I've found the Bruen recoil to be easier to handle but the PKM isn't bad either.

I use a “stubby” PKM as my main a lot of the time in WZ. Mono Suppressor, Snatch Grip, Compact Barrel, No Stock and 200-Round Belt. It’s very fast, and still has surprisingly low recoil.

The PKM has been my go to since day 1 of warzone. I love this gun, it does so much damage at longer ranges. I use 200 round mag, VLK 3.0 Optic, No stock, 25.9 Barrel, and Snatch grip. Works like a charm

Pkm mono, snatch, no stock, Vlk, 25.9 barrel, 200 round trios or more swap with vlk. I find this setup allows me to provide overwatch and control the distance of the fight. It is tough when you get caught off guard up close though. I just love that the Pmk has the snatch grip for ads and recoil. Also when a recoil pattern hooks one direction then the next is worse than minor hops left to right on a straight up pattern. My opinion. After a few days playing with the medium barrel (heavy) Im sure the long one (extended) does have some recoil reduction. Maybe its just horizontal because seeing the recoil patterns ace did its obvious that the vertical recoil does not get reduced when you use the longer one. For PKM users out there I advice using the longer barrel because that reduced horizontal recoil lets you get kills at more longer ranges which is the nature of the PKM.

TredBobek Because it’s open bolt, not gas fed. It doesn’t have a charge handle/bump like newer guns. Hence why the PKM is an outdated gun. Honestly it doesn’t belong in a “Modern” Warfare game. Although the same could be said of a lot of the guns in the game. You can tell the game was developed by people who don’t really know how to handle guns or don’t regularly.

I use BOTH guns in Warzone! I use the Bruen as a medium-long range murder machine in trios & quads, using a magnified optic and kitting it up for static accuracy. I have the PKM on a respawn class for late-game, using a close-range sight, 200 round belt, suppressor, snatch grip, and Fully Loaded perk to come back from the GULAG with tons of ammo to help the team. I never use the Grau or MP5 and don't seem to suffer at all from using off-meta weapons. I love the ability to hose down 3-4 enemies without stopping in Warzone :)

I've started using the PKM and it's my favourite gun. The only difference in my class is that I use a VLK scope instead of SOH. I think its a better gun in general then the Bruen if you use your secondary for close range.

As someone who's used both extensively, I prefer the PKM. The Bruen just feels slow in terms of ADS, and I usually don't mind the move speed disadvantage since I'll usually have an MP7 or MP5 secondary with the PKM. Amped is a hidden godsend to get around the map faster. Also the PKM has two alt iron sights which I find to be very helpful. One is the Mother Russia one and the other is the Baddie from S1. Then, I can throw on the CQB stock to reduce my ADS down to rifle levels.

As someone who uses the Bruen regularly in my loadout, I would have to disagree with some of your subjective points. The recoil pattern is sooo much easier to control with the Bruen at range. And landing shots is more important than damage per shot if you can’t hit. Also, the bruen setup you have here is kinda like a bad AR and a bad LMG. It’s in a weird middle ground. Try - mono -long barrel - merc - no stock - vlk , plus an SMG of your choosing. The mag change isn’t as bad as you’d think and you get to keep the attachment slot for something else. It will still out-damage ARs and is rock solid at range. Just got my highest kill game with this setup. Also, I am wary of your claim of no open bolt delay with the Bruen. I am fairly sure it does have a small delay. COD gun data also lists a 67ms delay.

totally agree, love the gun but have been really struggling to find it's niche in warzone. anytime I use the more mobile no optic/60-rd bruen I just ask myself why I am not using my grau set up instead for more mobility and better sights. so then I thought well I'll just spec it for long-range counter-sniping, which then feels awkward because if that's what I am going for I should just use the PKM due to the dmg not falling off at longer ranges. so... idk. I love the gun but have been struggling to find where to fit it in.

Agree with everything except the no stock, it just kills the recoil bonus you get from the longest barrel. Also, needs slight of hand, and merc isn’t really necessary because if you replace no stock with tac laser you get that recoil back to normal.

I started with the PKM moved over to Bruen for a couple weeks now im back on PKM. It just feels better. Its an absolute menace at medium long range. Also its odd about the PKM barrels, I came to the conclusion that the 25.9 barrel was better. At least it felt better in game. My guess was because of the velocity buff. Otherwise, it should have been worse without recoil buff the 26.9 had. Thanks for confirming my speculation. That 26.9 long barrel recoil pattern was very surprising. Those COD devs really keeping us on our toes.

No shot .... the drop offs are worse for Galil and recoil tougher to control, so once the new car smell is gone, Galil will go into the AK47 / Scar / SA87 closet. All good guns but not always user friendly.

The Bruen with the Tac Laser, Skeleton Stock, and 60 round mag is basically an M4 but better in every way. Add one of tong barrels and a VLK 3x sight and it's slightly slower handling than the Grau but will eat players way faster at almost any range

If you like some sort of sight on your gun, the PKM wins at every range in TTK with these set-ups if you include ADS penalties and the open bolt delay. Drop the skeleton stock/sleight of hand, add the VLK scope, and the PKM really shines. They are both great guns though; thanks for the well presented comparison.

The AMAX is better no question, however the ak with 5.45 rounds is the second fastest killing fullauto gun in warzone but it has only 30 rounds, so it depends on the situation

The only reason to use the AK over the Galil is you're using the 5x45 rounds or if you're using it at range. Otherwise the Galil is either as good or better than the AK.

PKM with the VLK is a beast. I run it with Mono, VLK, stippled, snatch, and 25.9 barrel. I also like to grab an SMG on the ground or a 2nd loadout w/ amped so I can use the SMG for running between places and for the up close battles.

I've been absolutely LOVING using the Holger in Warzone. I don't really know how it stats out against the PKM or Bruen but it's definitely my LMG of choice for Warzone after having switched from the PKM to it.

The TTK is great on LMGs! But the open bolt delay is annoying but maybe needed for balancing. The open bolt delay should be added to the ttk so for the pkm the ttk would be 209 instead of 159 What do you think about this? should it be added?

I use the Pkm with the PBX holo with the green U shaped Recticle... thing absolutely melts everything inside 75 meters and helps you lock on the target with a tiny bit of zoom.

I gots an idea, run both the bruen and the pkm, and put fully loaded on the pkm, so you can have 370 total lmg ammo and instead of reloading you switch to another lmg

Here’s the thing with the bruen, you either put a 60 round mag on it and it becomes a worse version of an assault rifle, or stick with 100 rounds and it’s handling is worse then the pkm, which is why the pkm is better, you put a 200 round mag, snatch grip, 25.9 barell, mono supporessor, and no stock and you have a very maneuverable lmg that you can spray down and lay suppressive fire against teams with along with great accuracy even with the no stock.

That's.... Not what it's is. with the 60 its way better than any LMG and has a fast reload and has a very good damage range like LMGs while having close to a AR mobility so it's a mix of the best of both.

Nice to know that the 23'' barrel gives you the same range increase without making the gun as slow as it is with the 26,8'' barrel. Most people simply use the longer barrel and make the Bruen slower than it needs to be.

My favorite class set up to use in Warzone is RAM-7 for closer range and MK9-Bruen for mid to long. It's no Meta slave Grau but it works pretty well(trying out the Galil now as well).

For example, around the 7:00 mark on the video, where you stated you were getting inconsistencies with the 26.9 PKM barrel, this might be to blame and it would probably improve your testing to account for it

I would switch Sleight of Hand on the PKM for a VLK sight. Take advantage of that extra range so you can pick people off. Plus since you're at a distance, reload time doesn't matter as much. Run a SMG for close quarter encounters.

With the PKM not suffering at extreme ranges unlike the Bruen, I figure you could intentionally gimp the range by using the lightweight suppressor and short barrel without much actual penalty. For most weapons, this is a death sentence in long-range fights, but this doesn't really hurt the PKM. Can let you get away with a surprisingly snappy LMG.

I'd swap Sleight of Hand for the CQC Stock on the PKM because if you run out of ammo and are in a pinch, you're better off switching weapons than reloading even with Sleight of Hand. Might have to try the Bruen in Warzone now!

I personally love the PKM, I use the snatch, first barrel, (forgot it) no stock, 200 round mags, and the merc thermal optic. I found it when I first got MW and it slayed on mosh pit modes. I now am grinding to obsidian, and have done most of its challenges

I use both weapons, but I’d honestly say that if I had to choose it’d be the bruen. This is just because of the 60 round mag. If I really need range and power I’ll run the pkm with 200 rounds and all else as fast as possible (except the barrel for range) and it does the job perfectly well. It’s just that the bruen feels more versatile and can be applied to many more situations ,with the same variant, than the pkm.

Bruen MK9 setup: 18 inch para, skeleton stock, 60 round, sniper scope, merc forgrip. Sniper scope is necessary. It’s only a 4.4x optic so it’s not a wild jump in zoom but most times people can’t handle a sniper scope on anything unless it has nonexistent recoil. Or a sniper 😂💀 but this set up has been tried and true and it’s wild to use.

Pkm with VLK 3.0 optic, and Snatch grip(a must), 200 round mag. Monolithic supressor and lastly Tac laser. Have wiped teams of 3/4 at 100-150 meters a few times. Try it out its Def worth it. ADS is decent but movement is slow. Def need an amg for close range but it replaced snipers in most cases.

I like PKM more than Bruen even though Bruen was my go-to weapon in Season 3. PKM just feels more handling while being larger than Bruen, which is significantly smaller than PKM. It's been a while now since I used PKM last time. Gotta put galil on a shelf and pick the big boye up once again And yeah, the last time I used PKM the attachments were these: short barrel, stock for quick ADS, snatch grip, G.I. scope, Sleight of Hand. Yeah, no suppressor. I liked being watched at. Though, I think I will revise my setup to see if I can make it a bit better and still comfortable to use.
