I've heard Jonas Kaufmann sing duets with both Domingo and Carreras, and he is truly a gracious performer, deferring to the remaining strengths of older tenors when the song is in a comfortable range for the state of their voices, and singing solo in passages neither of these older tenors could possibly handle anymore. A real mensch.

Un vrai bonheur que de les entendre et de les voir.Quelle voix Jonas ! Il est regrettable que dans de nombreux pays,France comprise l'opéra soit aussi élitiste 😢 Il en va tout autrement de l'Italie où le bel canton fait parti de la vie. I love everything about this performance - but especially Placido's joy in performing, and his enjoyment of the younger tenor. And I love Kaufmann's admiration for him - there isn't a sour moment in this duet. They have quite a bit in common actually - they can both act. Other tenors of Domingo's generation tended to stand and bellow at their sopranos - they might as well have been alone. Domingo and Kaufmann give their all to their singing AND their acting. From both of them you get the whole show! Thanks, boys.

Very well said! Totally agree! At the end you can see Kauffman hugged him a lot. From several interviews I watched, I feel Domingo is a very modest man, always smiling. Upon the videos of the same song I watched before, in terms of the voices, breathing and techniques I feel they are quite alike. I like Domingo more due to his emotions in it! A great talented artist!

I needed this video! I recently discovered Kaufmann and I thought his voice was the most similar to Plácido I've heard. Plácido's generosity and kindness are amazing. His the joy of music, he's alive music! A part of my life in many senses and one of the reasons for a happier life. Kaufmann is a really worthy successor of Plácido, i absolutely adore him, his voice of course, but his power, is nerve and emotion... I'm so happy, so very happy that they both are in this world!!!! Congratulations, maestros!!!!

Watching this made me cry more than once (don't tell the missus). That Maestro Domingo was a little bit reserved, shall we say, at first, and was clearly admiring Jonas' voice, was so very endearing and gracious. Then Jonas showed him respect and deference with a sense of joy, was yet more lovely. Then Maestro rallied to finish just as strong and on note, inspiring a clearly moved Jonas to wrap his arms around him like a boy overjoyed that dad is home from the war, thrilled for having sung with a living legend--sheer heavenly on earth magic. If Opera doesn't hang a giant portrait of Placido Domingo at the Weinerstaatsoper, ROH, Met, and La Scala, shame on them forever.

Mein Vater und ich haben das Lied oefters gesungen, und wir haben immer bemerkt, dass Du, Maestro Domingo, dieses Leid mit Gefuehl und Liebe immer gesungen hast. Ich war Fremdsprachenlehrerin, und ich spreche und schreibe fuenf Fremdsprachen. Ich habe auch Dich kennengelernt in New Jersey... , ich glaube das war in 1973 oder 1974. Alfredo Silipigni war der Dirigent der NJ Staatsoper.. ich war nur ein Mitglied des Chors, und ich habe Klavier gespielt wenn Das Chor jede Woche geuebt hat. Du hast in "Cavalleria Rusticana" und in "I Pagliacci" mit uns gesungen. Du bist ein ausgezeichneter Mann, ein fabelhafter Dirigent und der beste Tenor der ich jemals getroffen habe...
