Is this for reliability? My strategy is just hammer down infectious symptoms and air/water transmissions, only caring about the cure just enough to avoid a loss. If a island country closes, I just restart

depends honestly, because the symptoms makes the discovery faster, tho however i would recommend putting the same priority against the cure as shown, but if you want to make your own strategy, it's optional to follow the video's strategy. however, the strategy as shown is an almost-guranteed win (maybe a guranteed win, uncertain) so you do you.
