If I may make a suggestion: If you don't like the color of the journal, you could get a fabric quarter from a craft store or Walmart to cover it. I have used Mod Podge matte finish and it's worked well with the four or five journals I've done this with. I do suggest watching one or two videos as the corners can be a bit of a hassle depending on how sharp you want them to be. However, it's not a craft I would consider complicated (glue and fabric), expensive (the fabric squares are usually $1-$3 each), or time consuming (thirty minutes at most without dry time). It's best to do it a few days before you plan on using the journal so the Mod Podge has time to fully dry, but it can be used sooner depending on need.

Oooo, that is a great idea! I love it. I do like the sailboat on the front, so I would have to see if I could cut out a “window” in the fabric for that to show through. I am definitely going to have to try that as my aunt has a ton of fabric scraps I can use. Thank you for the suggestion.
