Something I've learned (in regards to the rusty header wrap vs ceramcoat) is that yes the ceramcoat is more expensive initially but if you factor in maintenance on the wrap, eventually it out-costs the ceramic If you have the $ and time for ceramcoat I'd say go for it and save yourself time and money later

Yep, it all comes back around. Look around at the Cruise-ins, Cars and Coffee and local car shows, Your seeing ALOT more 1973-80's cars, Why? because they have become this generation's "$500 Nova" of our generation, They are cheap "old" cars that still run and and drive that the younger kids can afford to buy and drive while they fix them up. Just in my car club alone there are 6 either being daily driven while working on or being built in a garage and it's all makes and models not just the popular cars, I bought a 73 Buick Regal a few months ago for $1200 and drove it almost 50 miles home, Our Club President is building a 74 or 75 Ford Maverick for his wife, Our Treasurer and her daughter are building a 77 Torino, one guy has a 75 Nova, another guy has a 77 Plymouth Fury and is in the middle of building a 76 Duster.

The segment about whether to wrap your headers or get them ceramic coated was pretty informative: While wrapping the headers is a lot cheaper and easier for the do-it-yourself types of mechanics, it's also more maintenance in the long term And despite being more expensive because it requires a professionally trained person to do this, Ceramic Coating seem to be cheaper in the long term as it doesn't require as much maintenance and it lasts longer, and is under warranty

Not quite true that nobody makes a old school style van any more, Chevy and GMC still offer a full size van whose design dates back to 1996. Because of their low price, they were super popular as cargo vans and can be found used with a variety of engines at every price point. I just picked up a 2014 Chevy Express 2500 passenger van with a stock flex fuel 350hp 6.0 LS and HD 6 speed automatic that runs on $3.99 E85 or $5.99 gas. It's better in every way than my old '89 van and much easier than trying swap an LS into the older vans. Since they have been making the same basic van for 27 years there is a huge aftermarket for accessories, and repair/replacement parts are dirt cheap.

Has this guy ever finished a project? Posted 5 months ago, 50k views, it's safe to say this is the channel's most popular series so why not keep it moving? Is it because they've run out of products to plug? Or have they realized that the crap they're plugging isn't an easy bolt-on in a van? Whole show is an ad, with ad breaks, and more ads at the end. Extremely informative. I’ve been slowly restoring, body, paint, interior, engine, on my 74 Chevy G10 (bought my baby new in 74) and have been considering an LS swap. You gave me some great ideas with the new wheels and tire sizes. At some point are you going to get into the wiring and gauges aspect?
@magnificenthonky2 жыл бұрын
One of the really nice things about that old 74, is that you've got no sensitive computer to degrade and introduce hard to trace electrical gremlins to your ride. (Which is not to deny the existence of electrical gremlins in lighting, sound system, or air handling- it's just that THOSE gremlins are comparatively easier to track down, or bypass) You've got a van that will continue to run and drive, even if the battery is run down and the alternator has died. You've got a solid engine that will better withstand overheating, and is better prepared to run on this modern, moonshine infused gasoline. Dropping an LS in an old van is tragic. Stick with a classic, cast iron 350, with mechanical fuel pump, and a 4 barrel carb. Or, shoot, for better ease of maintenance, you can pull lots of power from a 292 straight 6, and still have plenty room to function in that cramped engine compartment. It's a hell of a lot easier to engineer a quick fix with whatever randomness is handy on straight mechanical setups, just to get home in a pinch, than it is to try to engineer a quick fix for a fried computer, or a useless sensor that went bad and won't let the engine run.
@aerohead022 жыл бұрын
@@magnificenthonky Yeah, I thought about it and decided that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. In its younger days it ran 14’s in the quarter with 2 AFB’s, cam, heads, headers, all the fun engine stuff for its day. Boo Hiss. That LS swap ruins the build. I'd rather rebuild the stock 6 that's in it. Computers are foolish things to install into automobiles. Those sensitive electronics will degrade over time, and the process will be hurried along by temperature changes. An undetected leak may introduce water to the brain box and fry it out. There's an awful lot of time and finance being dropped into turning a solid vehicle into a problematic piece of junk. What a waste of a perfectly serviceable van. May as well make it completely useless, and chop the roof, shorten it by 10 feet, and outfit it with those hideous oversized wheels and rubber band tires that completely defeat the purpose of pneumatic tires to begin with.
