Testing the damping i received by a viewer compared to other material.
in the quest of finding the stuff B&G used (or similar/better), i received some damping that had sort of the same structure. lets see what it does ! if i say NEO 10 i dont mean the B&G neo 10, it just happened to be a my tenth version of a tweeter using neos.

If you want something thicker, check out "air filter media." The stuff used in small room air filtration systems and also humidifier media. They sell it in rolls as "washable or disposable air filter media." Or you could buy a disposable air filter and take it apart to see what's inside it. They are made of layers of different materials.

you mean like HEPA ? or whatever thats called, ? vacuum bags are rather expensive here :) but it should be as thin as possible , but still hs highest damping (not that much so it will remove all top end ofc :) ) if you got a link i would be grateful !

Maybe DuPont Tyvek could be an option. It is a thin breathable material that is used for wind proofing houses among other things.

thats a good point :) i used tyvek a few times int he Rubanoide :) but there might be thinner stuff that might be transparent ? since i got tyvek paper witch has the same unwoven fabric look. but does not allow for sound to pass. !

I use 'Swiffer mop pads' (The dry type) for heavy damping and .5 Ounce 'Floating row cover' for less damping. You sure that thick stuff is fiberglass? Hold a flame to it and see if it melts :) Looks like spun Polypropylene.

Oh cool! Thanks joppe! I have sanitation wipes (wetnaps) and their spun poly, but much thicker than the 'Floating Row Cover' AKA (Frost Protection cloth) Don't seem the same material as yours. Not sure. I say use the wetnaps :) Affordable and work well. The Frost protection cloth comes in several thickness so you can adjust the damping. I start with .5oz thickness. .5oz per square yard.

Have you ever added horns or cones or resonators to these?
@joppepeelen
@joppepeelen 5 жыл бұрын
i used a tractrix horn, and played some tunes with them look for binaural recording in my video's i love binaural and i used the horns there. not much gain i must add in the top end only in the low frequencies. i sued only a 6db oct filter there since they played low enough at my volumes without severe trouble.

Interesting and insightful video as always. Have you ever contemplated how the shape of the foil affects the sound? With a rectangular frame, won't the tension be higher in the corners? If however, the frame was circular, still with parallel magnets and coils, the tension should vary i a radial fashion and be more or less the same around the entire edge. Would this make any noticeable difference you think?

well round would be most terible, but slanted would be great. like straight on one side and slanted on the opposite. i still want to do that as seen here :) pasteboard.co/IHrEalG.png

Hi, could you tell me what is the best planar tweeter VS price? Very good videos and know how about. Many thanks! I saw all your videos... One day, if you sell a pair... :)
@joppepeelen

well i can tell you this my tweeters are not the best of the world ! by far ! it all depends on how much you want to spend, and what your looking for, i recon the B&G neos 3 PDR score really really high on the list on best planar tweeters , the same goes for the neo 8 and neo 10 for mid range. i made some that worked single ended perfectly fine for my tiny monitors. so efficiency is low but smooth. power handling not that great but enough for my small speakers. i think in the end you cant beat the B&G's since they are made in china with some rather clever design and really really cheap materials. and even made in the land of neodymium :) only downside... is someone decided not to make the bigger ones anymore. so someone bought the company. and im still waiting for a product they want to put forward to replace the gap. but a s of now.... i dont see anything they just bought it and stopped production .
