Plane catches fire at airport in South Korea

Passengers used evacuation slides to get off the Air Busan plane after it caught fire shortly before takeoff.

What’s going on in South Korea? Sounds to me they need brand new planes. First the plane crash recently and now this. What’s going on South Korea?

As a Korean, I can say that the current atmosphere in Korea is peaceful. Although there were several incidents, such as the President’s emergency martial law at the end of 2024, an airplane collision, and an airplane fire in early 2025, these were merely tragedies caused by coincidences rather than mechanical failures or national issues. The recent airplane fire was caused by a passenger's portable battery.

I'm Korean, and South Korea does have a lot of cheap airlines with poor management. Also Jeju airlines(the one that had the crash) was repeatedly exposed by former employees to be unsafe.

This was totally terrifying to watch! I'm very grateful that the entire crew was extremely professional and quick to respond to an emergency onboard! We all made it out alive! I hope an investigation finds the cause of the fire quickly to protect other aircrafts!

The cause of the fire is currently presumed to be the ignition of a portable battery.

From a search: Korean Air's fleet includes Airbus A321neo, Boeing 787-10, Boeing 737 MAX 8, and Airbus A350. Korean Air also previously flew the Boeing 747.
