The Aerosucre B727 actually performed a textbook maneuver to increase his rate of climb. Modern airliners with much more powerful engines need not perform this maneuver, which is why you don't see it performed. Besides, the plane is at least 40 years old and at maximum takeoff weight. After liftoff, the pilot clearly levels off to accelerate and retracts the landing gear to reduce drag and improve acceleration, all this while staying in 'ground effect' which is an area of dense air within a wingspan to the ground where more lift is generated. After accelerating within ground effect, the pilot commences a smooth climb out having perfectly executed the takeoff maneuver.

@therealgurke is absolutely correct. It is likely the aircraft was slightly overloaded and therefore retracting the landing gear while the aircraft was still within the ground. Effect of the runway was a way to continue to accelerate prior to engaging in the climb. Although usual and not necessarily recommended, it is certainly not unheard of. As a pilot of 30 years, it was fairly evident to me that this is what was going on here

Raising the landing gear early makes sense in Colombia's super-thin air as it reduces drag during the climb out. But... as the air IS so thin, any drag from the gear will be low anyway, so it's debatable whether it makes a significant difference. It certainly does no harm, though, especially if the plane's heavy, the weather's hot and the kite-eating trees are close and hungry.😁 ['Kite-eating trees' is a fond reference to the 'Charlie Brown' (Peanuts) cartoons of the late, great Charles Schulz.]
