After receiving many comments from you I think we can clear it up: This was actually Business Class on the Upper Deck. However China Airlines only uses their 747-400's for short haul flights and therefore market this product as Economy Class. I was most likely able to select this seat for free because I have the Skyteam Silver status. Nonetheless I was told you can select this seat for a very small fee of 18€ extra!

It's funny because I flew China Air Business class about 23 years ago on a 747 from LA to Taipei. It looked just like that!

Yes!! :D And that day I had 4 flights (14h flight, 10h layover, 1,5h flight, 6h layover, 1,5h flight, 2h layover, 2h flight). All in one go!

Man, I would love to fly on the upper deck of a 747. The 747 is basically the reason I am an avgeek. I’ve now loved Aviation ever since I flew on a British 747 on PHX-LHR 3 years ago. Keep up the good work!

These used to be their Business Class seats, but after they stopped using 747 on long haul service, they stopped selling First Class tickets, and upgrade Business Class passengers to the original First Class seats, and upgrade some Economy Class passengers to the original Business Class seats.

We did this from Taipei to Seoul and back. It was a cool experience since none in my family had ever been on the "hump" of the 747. We paid the normal economy tickets but more than 6 months before the flight. You can only select you seats at 6 month or sooner. I did it as soon as I can and the top deck were almost full arealdy.

Actually the seats were not full just most of them would have been blocked out by the airline for their dynasty members. I must say they in some ways do give some good benefits. Been a member for over 10 years and enjoyed most of it. The biggest benefit I used very much was when they put the older 747s on the Taipei to Brisbane route in 2013 to 2015 during Australian summer peak travel time. They allowed the members to take the upper deck for that flight which was crazy and the seating was the updated ones compared to the ones in this video. Amazing for a nearly 9 hour overnight flight. I think i did it 6 times during that time.

Thank you! If the list is up to date they have 4 passenger 747-400 in their fleet. That with the "business class" and elites could have some truth to it. I am a Skyteam frequent flyer.

the Economy Class in this B747-400 originally used to be the Business Class of China Airlines back in mid 2000s!!! which is why you've the vast legroom & wider seat!!! so basically your flying Business Class at the price of Economy Class!!! maybe the B747-400 used to be operated by KLM or Air France before China Airlines acquired this particular B747-400!!!!!!!

I have been on a 747 just like this with Thai Airways Thai Airways have it on the long haul flights as business class first class and economy but On a flight for an hour or less they have The first class as business class. And economy as economy

The flights were actually not that cheap considering i paid the same price for one-way ticket, compared to a return flight. Usually book in advance and be flexible on when you fly.

also erstmal habe ich dir schon gesagt, dass meine T.W.A. auf den Flügen von Berlin nach Frankfurt immer einen (kalten ) Essensservice angeboten hat bei Flugzeit 55 Minuten in eco. In Royal Ambassador in der B-727 hot meal mit champagner Wundert mich nur, dass China Airlines noch immer die B-747 fliegt. Da müßte es ja auch NOCH die FIRST CLASS geben....

Many flights from lax to HK no stop taiwan. Why you fly like that .....$500 ? This is not a every day flights. So some return flight can upgrade seat for more passengers loaded.

I fly with China often and these 747 cabins are really old and falling apart. They only use it for short regional flights and as these are on their last legs.

@@PlaneSpottingBerlin it's one of the very few 747-400s equipped with boeing signature interior cabins (777 style). cabin fittings look a lot more modern than on a classic 744. the only other airline to have that feature is qantas onboard their 747-400ER series, and all those were produced in the mid2000s (2004-2005). Even the newer LH 744 (2001,2002) still had the older sidewall panels, bins, etc from the late 1980s (!).
