How much torque can be applied to the planet gear output shaft before it begins to "slip" - what determines the torque?

I've never heard of the planet carrier slipping. The overrunning clutches can slip. There have been a few helicopter accidents due to clutch slips and the subsequent hard re-engagement. I believe the V-22 osprey fleet is currently grounded due to hard clutch engagements.

What advantages it has over normal gear ?

More gear reduction in a more compact space. And... It has a reverse gear even when the power input is in the same direction. Cars use planetary gears to reverse... The engine can't turn the opposite direction, so it's done with the planetary.

I understand what you are saying but im wondering how you configure the now rotating ring gear ( when in reverse and fixed planet carrier ) to do work @@bzig4929
