Welcome: Life in My 40s | Vlog #13
Working closely with people who dedicate their lives to supporting those who are sick has honestly been eye-opening-and a little scary. It’s made me realize how unprepared I am if something were to happen to me. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝:
👉🏽 𝘞𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦? 𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳?
At 41, single, with no kids (thankfully), do I expect my aging parents to step in? My friends? (A conversation we've never even had.) 𝐈 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰?
So, I’m taking steps to prepare for the unexpected. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭: completing an advanced directive-because illness doesn’t just happen at 83; it can happen at 22, 45, or any age. From there, I’m checking off other practical steps.
𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡, I trust that things will be as they are meant to be, but I also believe in activating 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦, especially as we navigate a new political season that might impact healthcare access and support systems.
What about you? How are you preparing for the future? Who are you talking to about it-because it’s a conversation worth having.
