If I would have bigger budged, I would definitely 8HP swap the X5 too. Auto suits that much better. Is just that the GM trans is oldschool slushbox with slipping converter. So it's not the greatest one to drive and fuel economy is horrible. Manual will fix those problems cheaply. But 8hp in that would still be the best option.

Tuorein info on että 2024 alkupuolella pitäs tulla kaikille saataville tuo useampi kielisen ääniraidan lisääminen. Eikä tarvi sit enään väsätä tekstitysten kanssa 😅

8hp is a awesome gearbox, I’m planning of swapping one on m20 engine. DCT is really difficult to control. For street use CANTCU is the only way to go, MaxxECU will support it in the future, I’m already using a MaxxECU and is a awesome ECU

I think they just announced the support few days ago. So the newest Maxxecu software supports CANTCU and the newest CANTCU version has the Maxxecu support.

@@Jakedelus I'm not looking everyday but I haven't seen one external controller working well enough for my standards, it's easy up shifting full throttle, I was referring to daily use slow speed stuff.

Jep ne on kyllä päteviä laatikoita. Pakko ollu tehdä jotain sille momentinmuuntimen ja laatikon häviölle, että saadaan kulutukset ja päästöt alas. Ei voi turhaan hukata energiaa öljyn vatkaamiseen ees taas 😂

Agreed with no need for a clutch pedal in an automatic if you dont plan to drift it. But I hope you add paddle shifters with the transmission, I think those are great for racey automatics that have lots of gears.

Tosi kiinnostavaa nähdä toi e36 automaatti swap! Itellä on vähän vastaavia ajatuksia, auto on 200kw n52 vapari ja just samoilla ajatuksilla että olis hieno laittaa siihen canformancen kanssa dct manuaalin tilalle. Ainakin ajatuksen tasolla kans tuntuu että vapari ja moderni automaattilaatikko toimis loistavasti

XHP makes ATM software- try contact them - they may can help you also do custom editable mapping- and if you have xhp stage 3 the manual mode will stay in gear unless you shift and trq limiters can be customized- they modify the bmw bin.

I think I'll pass that for now. Kenneth just announced that CANTCU will very soon have own flasher and later it will include editable shift points etc. So if that will be available on time, there is no need for XHP.

@@pazi88 i assume it will quite take some test time for them to figure out the correct maps inside the binary without description meta data file (a2l, xcp or similar). Without metadata file they only can try and error the diffs between alpina /m and stock binaries. xhp i guess has already done testing since a few years. Good luck with CANTCU anyways. I'm making a B30 turbo M50 motor with the maxspeedingrods and the AMP44 pistons. I know you used them in the past. What was your experience with them?

@@pazi88 Oh nice. Did you have the crank, rods and pistons balanced to each other or you just slapped in and sent it? Is it nescessary to have it balanced? I know its "better", but really.

@@placeholdername3206 Not on my turbo build. The crank is balanced alone from the factory and it's enough that the rods and pistons are close to each other. I did check the weights on my NA build and those were so close to each other that there was no need to adjust weights. Of course it would be good to match the crank counterweights to the rods/pistons. But it's not mandatory and it's really expensive, because in most of the cases you need to add weight, rather than remove it.

Very interesting plans for the E36! Looking forward to learn about the 8hp in an "old" car. But i freely disagree with the concept ;) IMHO an ideal E36 should be manual with a short diff to make it a nice drivers car for twisty roads/mountains/racetrack etc. =D For that the engine you built would be awesome, but anyways, you do you!

Well yeah I agree. But we already have two 3-series with manual. And those are so powerfull that this needs to be something different to be interesting for me. This will also have short ratio diff and also paddle shifters for manual mode. Should be pretty nice for race track.

I have. Not sure if it's the best possible one, because the n54 is not NA engine. I'm going to try N52 intake at some point, which is made ground up for NA engine.

@@pazi88 yes i saw their video, they did 230 to 250hp to alpha-n on M54b30 and then to 270-280hp with only adapter+n54 intake in the same video. I was also wondering how it is so efficient, if it is a forced induction intake... Also the torque numbers they put out were pretty good, i was very suprised on seeing +30hp from only intake (230>250 is alpha n + high flow exhaust, and 250 to 280 is the intake.) i suppose this doesn't go with your OEM engine bay plan since its adapter sandwitch for the intake. also you're not thinking of solid lifters + high rpm? racemode also has a video of M52tub 2.0 (fully stock block/head) doing 8k rpm lol.

@@iplaycs3 At least on the dyno slips I have seen "proving that", there is like only +5hp peak increase on whp from the N54 intake. And rest comes from hugely increased drivetrain losses. So the whole thing feels like scam 😅

I will prolly just make custom one from something I can get hold easily. But e36/e46 ZF automatic driveshaft should work, if you swap in N20 8HP output flange to the trans.

Yeah, I will do video on how to fit that to e36. I think there is adapters to fit ie. 8hp70 to m6x. But that will quickly get really expensive. And prolly will require a lot of transmission tunnel cutting etc. Still... Doable and could be nice combo. But too expensive for my budged. Even this "cheap" 8hp45 swap is stretching the budget 😅

Kyl mää tohon äksäänkin laittaisin 8hp:n, vaan se on niin kallis swappi, ettei se ikinää maksa ittiään takas 😅 Manuaali swappi näyttäis onnistuvan sen verran halvalla et sillä saattas päästä voitolle pienemmän kulutuksen kanssa.

hi I can't wait to see all his projects, especially your e36. for the story of the 2 speeds which exploded the automatic transmission I think it was because of the brake he had maintained during acceleration?!

You should be able to use brakes or handbrake just fine when accelerating. It's just extra load and good way to wake up the turbo for tuning. I don't think it's reason for the trans exploding. Especially because there is many stories on internet about the HTG engaging two gears simultaneously, without any warning.

@@pazi88 yes but I think he really overused the example in the video and well. but if he would have let go before it would never have exploded he would have done it with a manual gearbox the clutch would have made it rifleable
