Great video Michael and great information. Baptisia is one plant I have never used in my designs or in my home garden. I am suddenly motivated to use a variety of this plant for the next client that requests native perennials in their design! I live about 15 miles from Tony Avent so I may see what he has to offer. Thanks again for this video!

I loved this video. I have had my Baptisia for several years. I don't remember how I purchased it, but it is my favorite plant..I am in Kansas. No nursery here carries it. I enjoyed this video, I love the passionate way Dr. Dirr loves this plant and explains it's potential. I'm old now, but like him I hope to grow more Baptisia and share information. MORE VIDEOS PLEASE.

B-06-21!!! I planted out some Dirr baptisia seedlings this spring- can’t wait to see if I get bloomers next year! I think it’s time for another AHS visit to PII and the Dirr garden!

First of all, thank you for this video! I fell in love with Baptisia probably 35 years ago when I saw my first 6 foot clump of it. I only have one small plant and unfortunately I planted it a little bit high so I’m hoping it survived the winter here in my zone 6B garden. It’s very difficult to pick a favorite, but I think I’m going to go with Purple Haze. B-17-22 is pretty spectacular as well.

Love Baptista! Can't imagine a garden without at least one. Hope your unique colored baptista make it to market as you already have one customer. Thank you for the information

Purple Haze has to be my favorite. The lovely purple stems really make it! The only baptisia I have in my garden is Blueberry Sunday from a native plant sale... but this video makes me want to try more. Btw this video may have so many views because you asked for engagement by asking what everyone's favorite was. The KZbin algorithm loves that sort of thing. (People commenting on a video.) I've got to believe more people are more interested in hydrangeas. On the other hand, there's probably not a lot of content about baptisia anywhere on KZbin and tons about hydrangeas.

Wow, thank you. I will try to propagate mine, yellow and purple. They are so pretty. Deers seemed to go after the purple but not the yellow. Not sure why.

I live in Dawson county on a dirt road. We've got lots of native white & yellow Baptisia. I moved a few that were about to be lost to development & they've really taken off their 2nd year. Hard as nails, very nice plants. Our roadsides & right of ways are being over managed & important natives are being lost. Save these important plants folks! Bees & butterflies are in decline 😢

I have three growing in my yard now. Australis, lemon meringue, and pink truffles. I have them planted a good 20-30 feet apart, but I'm going to try and collect some seeds and see what happens.

Built a big (for me) hillside garden for a client/friend who is thankfully a patient person! Baptisia was supposed to be a big part of it as was Amsonia h. These and a lot of other things put in as plugs in April. Baptisia and Amsonia were fairly small plugs (50s) ... Took three years of care and they are finally filling out. other plants took off, of course, rudbeckia, asters, catmint, penstemon, etc. Lesson learned and Future gardens included larger plants to start for these players. That said, they are worth the wait for sure.

As an incentive to increase enthusiasm in Baptisia, I am sharing seed collected from the Dirr garden. For a packet of ~200 seeds (first 100 people) send a SSAE (Stamped Self-Addressed Envelope) to Michael A. Dirr, P.O. Box 327, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Plant America with Baptisia!

Thank you! I'm growing my collection of baptisia. I'm especially interested in that chartreuse colored foliage one! Hopefully it'll make it out to market some day! I look forward to receiving some seeds!

@@DrMichaelADirrI've managed to grow 16-18 seedlings from the seeds you sent me! I started in Feb. They are about 1"-7" now. I'll be putting them in the ground early May. Anything I should know, or look out for? How many years before I can expect flowers?
