I made a mistake with three trees this year but we're in south florida so we have different considerations than you do. Anyhow I usually wait until the beginning of rainy season but I put in 3 trees about two months early thinking my irrigation would be good enough...then my pump broke...so I been watering the trees with a drip in a 5 gallon bucket.

Nice advice! I actually like putting them in when it is raining a lot too. When I put in the Bacon lots of rain came and I believe helped get the tree somewhat established. Thanks for the advice! Always great to compare notes.

It sprouted for me, but it will not fruit in the snow.

Might be worth with trying a Duke?

Don't they take 9+ years to produce?

In NorCal it can take from 5 to 10 years for some varieties. I just planted that Bacon 6 months ago and it had fruitlets but I want it to get big first so it seems some varieties can fruit quickor when they get a lot of sun.

I think it’s 9 years from seed but grafted root stock is probably a lot faster I would guess.

@Nihlink Yes and seedlings can take decades even. If someone is going to move it probably wouldn't be my first choice. Varieties like Gwen and Gem are the other end, these two will fruit very young when the tree can't even handle it. I have had a Gem fruit itself to death after being only a year old.
