Plant bare root trees this way to grow very healthy and strong trees. Site selection, how big of a hole you dig, the direction of wind, and the type of your soil all lay an important role in how you should plant your bare root trees. If you plant bareroot trees this way such as cherry, peach, nectarine, plum, apple, and many other varieties, you will have an orchard producing abundant fruit.

I'd like to see a video on how to dig up small trees for replanting. I'm always confounded by how to get the root system out without destroying too much that has developed. Thanks for all your excellent videos!

Jag, I am new to your community. I live in North Texas & growing a garden here constantly changes from year to year. My soil is hard packed clay. So I’ve created planting boxes, use a lot of buckets & also material growing bags. It should be warm now, but we are in the 30’s & 20’s. Monsoon season begins next month. The heat here is severe with lots of wind and rain that comes down in sheets, very hard & fast for 20 minutes. I’m so glad I found your channel because the garden club I follow for north Texas doesn’t use the soil first method. Growing up, all we used was steer manure, fish emulsion, vitamin b12. We didn’t have a garbage disposal so all food went into the compost pile or to the pigs. And we rotatillered our soil until it was so soft, and the smell was so fresh. That was Northern CA soil. So beautiful! We grew everything! Thank you for teaching what your great grandpa taught you. I’ve learned more from you than anyone except my mom, aunt & grandpa. I appreciate you taking time from your day to teach. Your content is invaluable. Thank you.

Great info! 2 other suggestions: if you have any wildlife pressure such as deer, voles, rabbits, consider protecting your tree with a plastic wrap, or a tree tube, or a mesh cylinder made of chicken wire or the like. If you live in a place with intense summer sun like Arizona, applying a protective coating on the trunk of a young tree will protect it.

Great video. Thank Jag! I grew 3 Catalpa Trees from seed indoors this winter that are about 4” tall. I planned to plant them this spring after frost threat is over(probably late April-early May here at 3,200ft in the Sierras). Do you have any tricks or tips for Catalpa or just follow this video’s instructions? Thanks again. Love your channel. Best gardening one on YT! 😃👍🏼

Jag! Dude! Thanks internet friend, great info. Ive got about 60 fruit trees down here in SoCal... My problem is gophers. Wife doesnt want to burn them out so I have to build wire mesh baskets and put these into the dirt holes first, then plant and fill up. Its the only thing that seems to work. Any other things I can try? TY

Amazing content and done concisely. Thank you. I am starting some trees and shrubs from seeds using your seed starting method from another video. Once the seedlings are about 2-3 inches tall I think I will have to remove them from the seedling cells and put them into larger containers. Would you advise moving them to small, 4" pots or to larger, 1 gallon pots. Eventually, they will be transplanted around my 42 acre property. Thank you again for your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with us.

Okay. So the instructions on the packaging said to cut off all the roots between soaking and planting. Have you done this? I have some and I am curious if that is why some of mine never grew.
@DaisyCreekFarms
@DaisyCreekFarms Жыл бұрын
Pruning roots is not necessary. Only prune rotted roots if there are any. Pruning healthy roots will negatively impact the growth of the tree.

When I transplant something I love I take cuttings first. If for some reason it dies I will have babies. I believe lilac roots from cuttings very easily.

@@BlackJesus8463 - I was raised in the northern Sierra Nevada Mts and we had two cherry trees. One with huge black cherries and another with what my Mom called “pie cherries” (not sure of the actual variety names). The birds usually left them alone until they were getting close to being ripe with only a little green left on the cherries. At that point we would cover with heavy netting and that would save most of them. Of course, those krafty birds would get some but we were able to harvest most of them. You should go for it. Not only for the cherries but the gorgeous spring blossoms. They bring bees into you yard by the thousand’s which will help your other plants as well. Good luck to you. 😃👍🏼🌳

Hi, why we must have dirt 2 inches below the graft line. Also how many years the bare fruit tree will produce fruits? Thank you so much.
@DaisyCreekFarms
@DaisyCreekFarms Жыл бұрын
Because if the soil touches the graft union, it can have crown rot and tree can die. Harvest depends on the variety of tree, 20 to 50 years.
