This system provides free irrigation that also grows feed & shelter for people, chickens, goats, pollinators, and native song birds.
Two drains, each to a different gravity-fed branched drain system, distribute the greywater to multiple plantings with the free power of gravity. With this system the soil drains well, greywater does not puddle, and there is no odor.
This simple, inexpensive system (no pumps or tanks) uses common plumbing parts, and no expensive or hard to find valves.
Be sure you pipe maintains a minimum 2% slope - more on how to do this in "Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond, Volume 2, 2nd Edition"
Filmed in winter of 12-2021 in Tucson, Arizona.

Brad, this is such a fantastic, well thought out solution to a number of human and animal needs at your garottage . Your low tech solutions are innovative , perfect, and the way you showed this was so fun and interesting to watch; starting from the birds eye over view from your roof. I really like the spiralled design with the beautiful repurposed corrugated iron and vertical plantabulous walls and split pipes galore to edibles. Do you let your chickens out to free range too? Do they ever try the shower out? Lovely hearing them. Thank you for showing us your home and garden as it evolves layer by layer. Congratulations xo

As usual, ahead of the curve. You, and several organizations in Baja AZ deserve credit: Watershed Mgmt Group, The Mission Garden, Borderlands in Patagonia and so many others. The Old Pueblo is making progress in terms of climate change.

Fantastic system that you have and love all the info! But wouldn't it be a wonderful treat to plant loofa (sponge) and lavender (scent) and aloe (lotion) etc., around the shower area? Just a thought. The depth of thought that you put into the work you have done is amazing!

Those are my fave shower heads ever. I enlarged the water inlet diameter slightly with a fine drill bit. SO I have that shower head with almost 2x the water force!!

Hey Brad, I just stumbled onto your channel and I love what you're doing. This is the stuff I dream about all the time. I've got my own desert tree garden center in my back yard...Just not sure where to put them yet, haha. Live in San Diego but want to end up in AZ and do exactly the things you're doing in this video. Love the animals too. What a great way to connect with nature and the surrounding environment. Definitely subscribing and will probably binge-watch the rest of your content. The desert calls to me.

Hey Brad, thanks for your amazing videos and books. My grey waters turn black and smelly in the soil, why ? What can I do ?
@HarvestingRainwater

Sounds like you may be directing too much greywater to one spot. Try distributing the greywater to multiple spots. The branched drain system which I cover in the full-color edition my book Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond Volume 2, 2nd Edition is a great way to do this. www.harvestingrainwater.com/product/rainwater-harvesting-for-drylands-and-beyond-volume-2-3rd-edition-new-2019/ Also make sure you have vegetation planted that can speed up the infiltration of the greywater into the soil.

@@HarvestingRainwater thanks for your answer. I have volume 2 but 1st edition, is the branched drain in it ? 1 tap is redirected to 4 spots, but only to water trees, I think you are right it needs more plants. ,🙏
