Welcome Gardeners! Today, Jason and I are installing a river of Sweet Romance Lavender. It will not only bring some incredible beauty to the garden, but will also hopefully get the message across to our gophers that we have nothing good to eat here! 🪻 Enjoy!

If you google image the picture, it brings up an article that states the picture is from bucklers spring garden. It’s says Low-growing lime green Sesleria ‘Greenlee Hybrid’ (moor grass) encloses the bright purple Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’, a classic French lavender with a vigorous habit and prolific flowering. Some turf was removed to create the effect 💕

I looked up the plant varieties you provided (thank you) and the Grosso Lavender grows up to 36 inches tall (much taller than Sweet Romance Lavender) and the Greenlea hybrid grass grows 8 to 12 inches tall. Blue fescue grass could also be an option.

I don't know what the grass may be, but I think the dichondra may not give enough contrast since both it and the lavender have a gray appearance to them. I agree with another viewer that it would be a terrific opportunity to plant the Lemon Coral Sedum on each side of the lavender to continue it along your path as you had planned earlier. It would be striking!

The lavender river is fantastic, it will be stunning next year. I live in KY, 38 degrees this morning, I never have had much luck growing lavender - I'm jealous. Watching you bend and sitting in the ground I thought I'd mention that as I "mature" it is getting a little difficult to do all that bending, etc. I purchased a kneeler/seat from HoseLink.. It makes my gardening so much easier and helps with getting up and down It is so sturdy and I think the weight limit is 300 lbs. 😀

Janey you are taking the right approach with planting gopher resistant plants and using gopher baskets. One of the measures I took which seemed to help, was adding Mole Max granules to the bottom of my planting holes. I was surprised to observe in my garden that the gophers do not bother my hydrangeas!! They ate everything around them, but did not touch my hydrangeas. They also leave my iris and daffodils alone.

@seeta5409
@seeta5409 Күн бұрын
@@cherylskornik1512 Maybe it could follow the pattern of the pathway for a short distance and get repeated on the other side further down or with a little bit of overlap. Or the lavender could be planted on both sides of the pathway parallel to each other for a short distance following the natural path of the pathway. There could be multiple ways of doing it. I am sure what Janey has done will also look amazing.

I made the mistake of pulling out my Alliums this spring. I was tired of cutting them to the ground in August. After 40 years I was pulling the Alliums out like weeds. I have used Alliums for years to keep gophers and moles out of my yard. I used Alliums to outline each flowerbed and walkway. Now I have gophers and moles everywhere. I can watch the ground move as they dig below. I have watched them come out of their hole and walk to another place. It is disgusting. I have purchased cages and will try them. Do you have any suggestions? I am looking for an exterminator to get rid of my problems.💙🦋💙🦋🇺🇸

A possible short grass for you to try would be Blue Grama Grass, the cultivar 'Blonde Ambition' is especially attractive, and is available from High Country Gardens. Be aware that the suggested Hackonechloa will burn in full sun in our climate. You have so many perennials that need cutting back, that I would suggest investing in mini electric hedge shears, the ones that have a twelve inch blade. It would save you so much time. Also, have you considered planting a thick band of daffodils along the fence,? They are poisonous, and may discourage gophers from coming over from the goat field. Just plant them far enough back the goats can't reach them. It's worth a try, and would pretty, even if it didn't work int the end!

From google Deer grass (Muhlenbergia), right, looks like a larger cousin of some of the Fescues. It grows to about 2 feet tall during the summer, but unlike Pampas Grass and Fountain Grass it does not need to be trimmed back in winter. As a native plant of the American West, it needs very little water. Blue Oat Grass (Helictotrichon sempervirens) - looks like giant blue Fescue grass, but grows to 2 to 3 feet high and wide. Bright blue leaves with tall stems of yellow flowers in the Spring. Needs rich soil.
