Yep, that will do it. I would be worried squirrels will eat 'em though. We planted about 600 wallnuts last fall (~8 in deep), this year maybe 150 came up (the remainder dug up by squirrels). Plan now is to freeze over the winter and plant again in spring. Using little flags to help avoid chopping with weedwackers and mowers.

There aren't many squirrels around right now. Most of them died in the forest fire. However, I expect that the deer and elk will like them as much as the squirrels. Either way, I am fine if not much grows in the spring if it also brings in more wildlife.
