How long, typically, dies it take from starting seed germination? Does it take months, a year, 2 years? I have usually just divided or purchased bulbs which usually bloom that season. Just wondering if I should just divide for areas I want blooms in next year and possibly start seeds for future blooms. Thanks.

2 to 3 years. We have only had the species lilium pumilum bloom 6 months after planting

I believe they have to be stratified first. That means they have to be subjected to cold temperatures 40° or lower for at least a month

Ours are sorted and then frozen until planting.

Not the case here, I've got some fresh picked seeds that went straight into a bag with a moist papertowel and a little over a week later they are starting to pop. Kept in a cupboard in the kitchen so beyond the cool water, that's all the cold they got. We have had a few ~0C nights though, no hard frost, but cooler nights, so it's possible they have had a head start right in the pod, but they should be fairly insulated there. After not seeing anything for a week I was starting to think this *might* be the case, but patience prevails and here come the tails.
