Well, in Genesis 1:14 it does say that God gave us the lights in sky: “Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;”

So happy to know that I’m not the only who follows the signs! Jenn, I’m also a Scorpio & do is my husband. Nov 9 & 14th are our birthdays. When is yours? Oh and one of my things that I do & live by is burning sage. I truly believe it helps keep bad energy out. I do it at the start of every season & also right before we have any kind of celebration & throughout the week as I feel the need. I also never use an old broom in a new house. With being a retired military family, we moved around a lot & I always bought a new broom & smudged the house before moving in.

I am canning this morning. I had forgotten about harvesting, canning and planting by the signs, my grandparents followed them. Went looking for something, could not find it in the O.F.A., and found you guys, posted on my birthday. Then saw the Tee shirt, looked like KY. Sure enough, looked at mailing, Frankfort, I am in Burgin, little burg east of Harrodsburg. Love the content and love to support KY KZbinrs. So I think I will stick around, Subbed, Belled and smashed that Like button. Also good to know you go to church. Also, about the moon, my preacher and I go (used to go) to the hospital on Full Moon Firday and Saturday and help with all the crazies that would come in there - amazing. See you around.

I am a fairly new gardener..this is year 2. I was told by my great aunt about planting by the moon. I went to her for gardening advice because our entire family knows her as being the one person in the family, completely incapable of killing a plant. when I asked her what advice she had to offer a new gardener, her only reply,"plant by the moon". I have since been tying to learn everything I can about this topic. I have also been watching a lot of homesteading youtubers, I started watching about a month before you guys got started. I found you through Jess. I have already learned so much from all of you, but this is the first information that I have seen from my favorite youtubers. I want to thank you so much for being "crazy". We have a retired postman here in Donegal, he delivered mail in the Bluestack Mountains for over 48 years and predicted the weather too. He predicted the heatwave we had in 2018 and the big freeze in 2010. He does it all by watching nature, the birds, the animals, the leaves etc. He learnt it all from the older generation around where he grew up and he's usually right. This year he's predicting we're going to have a good summer................thank goodness.

I love this! I am a TN native. My great grandmother, Momma Lessie, was a Pentecostal Cherokee-Irish that raised 11 children during the Great Depression. She taught me growing "by the signs" and Moon phases. I have followed this every since I started gardening. The only fails I have ever had was when I didn't adhere to the teachings. A big no-no was to not sew on Sunday. All seeds had to be planted by your own hands (no gloves), and to walk in the garden barefoot, but nowhere else. Watch your gates (Ear gate, Eye gate, Mouth gate). All gates go straight to your spirit. Ear gate, be careful of what you hear. Eye gate, be careful of what you see. Mouth gate, be careful of what you say. And, the word "hate" was forbidden, cause "hate" was of the devil. The best for learning was that what you put out you get back. "God don't like ugly". "Blessin's come to those that ain't looking for 'em." My favorite lesson of all was, "Miss Mossy, just be still. Listen a while. You might just hear what you're needin'.'" Oh, and "never climb a latter when your expecting. It will tie the cord around the baby's neck."
@Flowerlady7314 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I had to change the word "pregnant" to "expecting". That was also a forbidden word, too.

Yes! Thank you for this! Exactly what we have been saying on our channel. For new gardeners, this will help with production and not give up due to not much produce! farmers almanac 2020 gardening calendar online will give you what you can plant on what days 1 month at a time. Easy to read information for new gardeners. We wait to cut hay on days that will promote new growth. We don’t wean or castorate any animals without the good moon signs. I just planted sweet potato slips in the pouring rain because it was a good day for below ground crops.

Great video, I learned the planting by the signs from my parents and grandparents. My Mom was fanatic about the door thing, but many you mentioned here I had heard from her. One I remember was don't step across a broom lying on the floor it brings bad luck. If you drop a spoon or fork, company is coming, a spoon was a woman and a fork was a man. I have so many and alot I forgot, the older generations practiced these fervently. Blessings

Thanks for sharing this fun topic. I have always gardened, raised 3 great boys, and everything else by the signs. I have all the same traditions you have like always entering and exiting the same door, no canning or gardening during that time and so on. They really do work and I passed this information onto my children and grandchildren. I always throw salt over my left shoulder if I spill it, this blinds the devil so that it can’t take your soul. I also put some coins out the the front porch on New Year’s Eve and then bring it back in on New Year’s Day, that way you’ll have money coming in all year long. My kids always enjoyed doing this when they were little and still do it with their families. My New Year’s dinner is always Fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, turnip greens, black eyed peas, fried hog jowl and rolls. The one year I didn’t prepare this my kitchen caught on fire and did $7000.00 worth of damages (34 years ago). Needless to say this meal is a big deal to me. 🤣. I have many more but I've already talked your ear off. Sending y'all love and hugs from Tennessee ❤️🤗

Sounds like it's a good thing I've gone through menopause! Maybe that's why grandma always seems to have that magic touch. Planting on Good Friday is actually planting by the moon because the date Easter falls on each year is determined by the moon. It's always the Sunday following the first full moon after March 21.

My son will be 56 in early August. When he was a baby, he drank from a bottle, because hubby did not want me to breast feed. So my hubbys grandmother told me that when I was ready to wean him from the bottle, to look at the Old Farmers Almanac. I had never heard of that but we looked and planned ahead. He had been using a sippy cup for a couple of months, so at age 10 months he walked and was weaned ! It was so easy. He never asked or cried...he ate real good and drank his fluids from his sippy cup. My hubby has always planted by the signs.

When my grandma was little she got burned. There was on oler lady that "talked the fire" out of her. She had no scar and it took the pain away. It was a bible verse but no one can remember what it is. She pulled a cup of coffee over on her a few years later but the old woman had passed by then. She has a nasty scar on her neck. My dad always planted corn on Good Friday. We always have a good harvest. He also had the superstition about handing a knife back the way it was handed to you. Maybe it is a Southern thing?

One superstition my family has done for generations back is having a big mirror at each main doors (the front door, back door, side door etc) to keep the bad spirits/ shadows out. Another is what the Spanish goes by called ojo (where a child gets sick due to envious from another person. Like a Hispanic child having blue and people just staring without touching the eyes. The child will start running fever). Us Hispanics/Spaniards have weird ones as well 😬
