I have tried growing creeping thyme between my pavers and finally was successful. Sand was between my pavers and that is how I was able to grow this plant. Color me stupid but a sandy mix appears to be the solution.
@solarroofing80722 жыл бұрын
thanks I used sandy soil about 2" deep, hopefully the seeds start sprouting, does it really take 3-4 weeks like the video says> I'm in charlotte, NC. In april we get highs arond 75 and lows around 55. f

Sand is correct. Thyme hate to get their feet wet. So, if you have clay soil, dilute heavily with sand for good drainage.

I'd like some advice. I have a 5 foot by 5 foot square olot where Id like to cover with this plant. Any problem with covering it with seeds bought in bulk and scattering them?

You can use creeping thyme for culinary purpose
@ximono3 жыл бұрын
Was going to say this. You can use it just like regular thyme. Maybe not the parts you walk on, though.

My house I just bought has ugly gravel on one side. There isn’t anything planted there. It’s just gravel and weeds. It’s going to be a TON of work to remove the gravel. Can I just put down dirt on top of the gravel and plant creeping time?
@ashg72192 жыл бұрын
I realize it's been a year since you asked this, but if you haven't tried anything yet, you CAN do that, but I would break up the top few inches of your gravel and then lay about six inches of dirt on top. Work that in then plant your ground cover. Just be aware that if you have any slope, you're probably either going to need to add teirs or just monitor your soil to be sure it isn't running off and taking your seeds with it.

Is creeping thyme resistant to spotted spurge? I have a rock path that keeps being taken over.

Eric, I bought a flat of creeping thyme because my endeavor trying to plant from seed had wilted, literally. (I skipped one day of watering, and the tiny shoot disappeared into nothingness.) But now, I'm starting to see my creeping thyme in the flat, starting to have yellow leaves here and there. What am I doing wrong?! Overwatering, underwatering?
@SarcasticPixie2 жыл бұрын
This can be from over or under watering. Highly recommend getting yourself a water meter! You shove it into the soil and it tells you how wet it is. This stopped me from killing all my plants.

can I grow it instead grass on my sidewalk in Canada? I mean if it will survive Canadian Niagara-region weather? What do you advise?
@LauraLynnB Жыл бұрын
I’ve done a section of my front yard next to my sidewalk with creeping thyme in Ottawa (facing south) and it is thick and thriving. I used small plants though not from seed. Next year I’m going to try planting it from seed and doing my entire backyard. If it can survive Ottawa I imagine it would do well in Niagara.

how I get them to grow from seed right in the gravely environment that they prefer? I have a lot of Rumex and Cardamine hirsuta wanting to come up in the gravel so I imagine the soil is good enough for thyme to get a foot hold.

I have planted creeping thyme seeds in the manner suggested...nada, nothing. I tried germinating them indoors first, hardening them off, and transplanting as seedlings...nope. The seedlings promptly croak. I do not know the magic rule for growing creeping thyme from seed.

is culinary thyme a good garden plant? (edible landscape concept)
@tldrftw5 жыл бұрын
Yes, even though they say it's not for cooking in the video, it's absolutely edible. Just not quite as flavourful as the normal type, but if you grow it in sandier soil that makes it oilier and more aromatic.
