Been researching how to plant gunnera for a couple of weeks now, and so far all I've found is advice on the 'essential' requirement of a bog garden, which I didn't particularly want. Have to admit I got myself into a bit of a lather about it all, so worried it will dry out and die, so thank you for this video as it has put my mind at rest a little. Will give it a try with the liner at the base to restrict the drainage as you suggest. Fingers to crossed. Thanks Andrew.

Hi that was a great vid. I would love to see how the plants doing now. If not please just tell us in the comments section. I'm trying to get a hold of the plants but they're quite expensive too. Thanks.

Can you please post a video on how they are doing now?

I just planted a few rhizome cuttings of gunnera with no rootless on them at all, one has a compost bag buried under it and the other has a water basin under it to try to hold onto water and keep their growing areas damp

it's to dry, need much more watter. I've planted one in France in a soil that is kind of dry and eposed to the sun all day, it survived few years but we had to put water in the summer and ussually the leaf got burned, but last year we haven't watered it much and it died. We have an other one that is in a much more humid soil and only exposed to the sun in the morning and it's growing so much every year, it's impressive to see it grow day by day. This year i've cut it in half and planted an other one closer to the river, we'll see if it survive.

Hi there,brilliant video. I was at a local park/garden yesterday and came across this beautiful plant, was wondering if this is edible and how do you get started with ie seeds or cutting? Thanks Baz

Enjoyed video. I am about to buy a gunnera. I have poor drainage soil (clay really) in my garden which is a swamp over winter. Do you think this type of soil would be ok for the gunnera. I will keep it saturated over summer because the clay dries out so much during that time of year.

Why did you use those H O R R I B L E camara angles??? Why did you plant them so close??? I would like give them much, much more space and plant them in a much more wet area also. And, yes, i also notice the pool in the back.

Marco Polo Because they are such small Portions compared to the mother plant and Gunnera grows well together in large clumps it really isn't a problem. They are now doing quite well. Sorry if the camera angles have offended you so deeply lol.

that soil appears to be far too dry for a plant that needs a tremendous amount of moisture.
@deepblueandy89 жыл бұрын
Terry Kyte They are doing quite well now and I understand what you mean about the soil however the footage is deceiving, the soil really isn't that dry though it is also not an especially boggy area and actually has good drainage but when the large pond behind is full and overflows slightly this does help, also alot of watering if it is very dry though I have only had to do this once thus far.

+Andrew Simpson I was just about to say the same thing because that soil it really dry even that deep down....it's made me feel a bit better though because I've just bought a Gunnera plant which is currently very small yet so I''ve potted it to grow on, bu I was worried in case it's final place would be too dry next to the pond. The pond regularly over flows whenever I top it up so it will get moisture that way and I plan to put some chicken poo and some compost in the planting hole which should help it retain moisture.

As long as it isn't a really dry spell their roots are nice and big and seem to find enough water.
