I can’t wait to see how it develops. And thank you for the recommendation in another comment of ‘Farm on the edge of nowhere. We live in Texas now and it’s a big change from Western Washington (USA) where I used to live and anything you put in the ground grew well, you just had to fight the weeds.

Yes, I hope the mice hasn´t eaten everything below ground... Only a few months left until things starts growing again!

That's going to be such a pretty stand of trees! I can't wait to see them next summer!😍🥰😍 Here, we plant our rows of trees in an L shape across the north- northwest area behind our house and outbuildings and call them shelterbelts. They protect us from the strong winds and catch the snow, helping to keep big drifts out of our yard and barnyard. Farmers and ranchers (and citizens) can buy small trees for cheap from our County Extension Office. Planting trees here is a big deal, because we don't have many naturally because of our extreme drought and severe cold climate conditions. Does Sweden have anything like that where you can get trees for cheap? Personally, I've had a heck of a time getting trees to grow on our property. I tried a number of years to get some Arbor Day Trees to grow, with no luck, unfortunately. We've been in a drought cycle and that's always so tough on trees. Claude Barr recommended building microclimates for protection of plants and I'm having some luck with my coteneaster and lilac bushes. I was trying to figure out what your farmer neighbor was doing- was he running a manure spreader? Did he plant anything like winter wheat or did he just till the field for next spring?

Yes, shelterbelts are great! I have a forest on my north border, so not needed for me. I´m thinking though, to maybe plant a hedge or trees close to the road to block out some road noice. Unfortunately we can´t find trees for cheap here, but since the forest industry is big we can buy small forest plants in bulk (probably a minimum 500 plants or so) to a low price. But then we have to wait many many years for them to grow. Where is your garden/farm located? Have you checked out "Edge of Nowhere Farm" here on KZbin? They have good tricks to grow in dry conditions. As you mention, I think you should try to see if there are any native trees and shrubs that grow well in your area, and plant them first for shelter. When they are established you can plant other varieties that can tolerate the cold. Good Luck! The farmer was spreading manure. He will be planting a new field of grass to harvest for cattle there this spring.
