Super helpful, I'm excited to see the rest of this series! Took me multiple seasons to learn I don't need to start fifty different plants from seed all at one time just because that's how many little pots were in my seed starting kit. Last year I was almost miserable with tomatoes and zukes because all of them survived and produced bigly! You are doing tremendous service to newer gardeners here. :)

Fire ants have built cavernous tunnels under my raised beds (followed vole tunnels - didn't even have to dig!). Treat them early. Clemson Extension service says use Spinosad near food gardens. Here is their quote to me: "In looking at any fire ant control bait, you will need to make sure the active ingredient is either spinosad and pyriproxyfen. You will the active ingredient by percentage on the label of the product. I've attached one example below, Southern Ag Conserve Naturalyte that has the active ingredient spinosad on the label. This one is also OMRI labeled which stands for Organic Materials Review Institute. OMRI Listed® products are allowed for use in certified organic operations under the USDA National Organic Program. If a product can be used on a vegetable garden, it will definitely state it on the label. If it's not stated, then it can't be used. Glad you asked!"

Direct sowing doesn’t ever work for me in Zone 9 while it’s already in the 80s to high 90’s at times.
@htcinfinity3 жыл бұрын
I'm here in Texas where it's usually 90+ every day in the summer, sometimes higher. I only direct sow. What has worked for me is to use mulch, over seed, water early morning, and in the evenings. If I add a row of seeds every 2 week; usually I can stretch my harvest of a crop for a long period. Last year I had mustard greens, kale, and water spinach all year.

I swear in one of your videos I saw you plant two tomatoes in a single grow bag. If I have a 15 or 20 gallon grow bag (or even an 18 gallon cheap plastic tote from Wal-Mart) can I put two indeterminate tomato varieties in there? Will it be big enough, ya think? That is IF my tomatoes survive, this spring has low temperatures, and I'm just West of you.

I have watched many of your videos lately. Thank-you for all the effort you put into them you do an outstanding service for us. With the drought in the west.....growing our own fresh vegtables may soon be the only option. The only thing I noticed you are not making clear is we need to put a filter on our water supply to cut/reduce the chlorine we water our plants with. I do containers so I went to extremes this year to get results. Each has potting mix, tablespoon blood meal, tablespoon bone meal, tablespoon Miracle Grow Shake & Feed Tomato + calcium, and (compost/manure) in the bottom and a water resevior. The top has 2 cups of worm casting and 4 tablespoons Dr. Earth fertilizer because it has all 6 of the major nutrients (N-P-K, Magnesium, Calcium, & Sulfur) and the essential bacteria the ground needs mixed with better quality potting mix. My watering can is 2 gallons and after watching your videos I add 2 teaspoons Miracle Grow( [18-18-21] which is reduced to 6-6-7) water solubleTomato food, 1/8 cup Alaska Fish fertilizer, 1/8 cup milk, 1 tablespoon Epsom Salt. I divide this 2 gallons between 12 containers....they are doing extremely well, very green and thick stalks.

Either. Depending on how. many come up. But you can get away with 2 in the same space. Typically I do thing them. I'm still expecting some over night temps in the high 30's. Can I put my tomatoes, peppers, melons out now? You're zone 6 correct?
