tomatoland I did a little research on google and it looks like it's Kubota rice transplanter NSPU-68C and it costs ~$8000. And probably there are some "copies" on alibaba that are cheaper :P

Oh wow I didn't know they had such high tech methods of planting rice! In my head I thought you guys would be planting it by hand which is what I've seen in most old movies, but I guess it would make sense that they have some kind of tractor/machine to do that now! Yey! Oh my gosh, this was so much fun to watch, Rachel was beaming with joy at the end too. That rice planting machine, though, that has left me flabbergasted, I'm amazed it was able to take each plant gently and plant it into the ground, it looked so beautiful! The hats were equally impressive, it reminded me of those old Dutch paintings with women picking flowers.

I have to say, I am really impressed with you Rachel. Planting rice has huge cultural significance and the fact that you want to take part with Jun and support him is really touching and meaningful. Super cool of you. I am from North America and I am Native American and my community watches and harvests wild rice every year. It was really interesting to see how japanese rice is planted. Thanks for sharing.

I remember watching a documentary about a famous buddhist pilgrimage route and they were talking to some of the people walking the route and I saw someone in the background planting rice and I thought it was the coolest thing. It's still the coolest thing and i'm so happy that I got to see the tractor up close. I want up close action of the actually planting application on the back of the tractor

Do you happen to know what the yields are like in that paddy? Do they use the same tractor with different attachments to harvest it? Is rice still planted by hand in Japan?

The machine was so cool!! Back then I planted rice with my hand only so we can't wear any shoes since it'll get dirty. The mud was everywhere and to top it all off, the boy was splashing the girls with mud and bugs! XD Modern technologies r cool indeed~~
