That is so wonderful to hear Andrew 😀 We are up to our 3rd lot of seedlings germinating this way this year. We are loving using the container this year, instead of just the pots by the fire that we have done in previous years.

That big container is a great idea!! I also start my seeds in front of the fire (my tomatoes are currently about two inches high) but I have the seedling pots in kitty litter trays (clean ones!! Lol!!) so water doesn’t go everywhere. But, as you said, they do dry out rather quick. I’m going to town tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll have to get myself a container as well!!

That's so lovely to hear this has helped. I am LOVING the move to the container this year. Being able to pick the whole thing up and take it outside on the days that are good enough weather has been a blessing too. I have already started more seeds in there and transferred some out to the greenhouse. Unfortunately having some issues with bugs badly eating them in the greenhouse this year though :(

@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus Bloody bugs!! Aphids have gone on a rampage with my brassicas this year & something keeps pulling out my beetroot!! (I think it’s the water chooks). I would love to net my entire garden, I just need to win lotto first!! Lol!! Hope you get on top of your pesky bugs before they get any more & hope you’re not blown away with this horrible wind!! Xxx

If either of us work out those winning numbers, let's share. As I wouldn't mind some garden protection too... especially over the orchard.

Great video and a road trip! Nothing better than visiting diggers. So satisfying starting veg at this time of year.

Greetings Rachel from Wagga Wagga. As a former Sth Gippy girl and Diggers member for decades, may I recommend a yummy slicing tomato to try….Black Krim. It will grow well in Victoria…happy growing season to you….

Hi Jaynie, thanks a bunch for the suggestion. I just checked the pack for the 'green and black tomato collection' hoping it might be one in there. But it doesn't list them. Fingers crossed it might be. But I will look out for it in the future. Happy growing season to you too 💚

The QLD blue pumpkin is my favourite and it makes the best roast pumpkin and roast pumpkin soup. It’s so hard to find these days. I used to always save some seeds from mine but my last ones got lost when we were moving. 😊😊😊

Hopefully this share helps to be able to find them, as I would think Diggers would do delivery. I also saved seed after having originally stored some and then planted from a magnificent roadside pumpkin. The cross pollination had become such an issue for us years of seed saving on though. It will be good to get back to true to type 😀

My guess is a lot of those seeds wi take. Especially any squash types. I planted spaghetti squash from 2016 in 2022 and they all grew!

Hi Rachael I was wondering if you could advise me how to can this recipe of choko relish. My mother-in-law has been making this for years, but because of what I know about safe canning methods, I can’t make it with the flour in it and just put it into a jar and hope it seals. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to make this safe for canning. Thanks 3lb choko 1lb beans, 3 large onions, 2 tbls mustard, 1 tbls turmeric, 1 teas curry, 3/4 teas pepper, 2lb sugar, 1 cup flour, 11/2 pints vinegar

Hi Jenny, I will be honest that chokos aren't something I have even eaten before let along can, so I really don't feel the right person to advise on this one. I even jumped on one of my canning groups I trust and really couldn't find much there on them. You are spot on though that the flour is a no go. I would recommend jumping on one of the canning groups on Facebook and doing a shoutout, as hopefully there is someone experienced with chokos that can give you a response based on experience 😀
