I have heard by making the pasture area smaller, animals get more competitive and start eating the grass, they didn't want to eat before.

That is right and that is why we do it.

Everything going to plan bro. All looks good, I hope you got the last rain storm before the summer comes in strong.

There was no rain storm at all. Never trust a forecast here.

I’ve been subbed for some time now, happy to see your farming improve and your soil enrich. Hopefully you get a bit more rain this dry season good luck.

Odd to see the Plantain coming up, it's usually a sign of severe compaction
@TheEmbrio2 жыл бұрын
Plantago lanceolata is less a sign of generalized compaction than plantago major.

Great update, as always. And looks like it is raining and will continue to rain for a few hours there right now on 26th May? I hope the forecast I am seeing is correct, for once.

Look for Conquista, Cordoba, Spain. My forecast shows sun and later cloudy skies. No rain at all. :-( It is also NOT raining here.

@@ProjectGranjaCaimito 😩 I was Looking for “Andalusia, Spain” but somehow ended up in the US. I will reset my weather App. Goodluck with rains. And waiting for the next update (seems slightly delayed based on the recent uploads every two days intervals?). It is not a complaint, just eager to watch the update :) keep up the good work 👍🏻

The sheep are obviously still terrified about the predator scent inside the dog compound.... they're keeping themselves to the outermost corner only
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
These sheep - due to lack of frequent interaction - are always nervous. After a while they calmed down and did their job.

Late spring should be hay making season around there, I'm guessing.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
There are some who make hay for sale. It is not common by far. This time with a lot less water it is very unlikely. Last year some did.

If there is an outflow from the reservoir that always carries water, and you have a shallow well next to it, you GOT A PERMANENT SOURCE OF WATER, even in high summer. What you call seepage from the reservoir, I'd call an artificially induced natural spring. Is there a quota of water you are allowed to pump from the reservoir fed aquifer you are sitting on top of? From your own well? if not, you should change the name of the farm to Potential Shangri-La Finca.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
We have been able to pump that shallow well dry but it comes after a day or two.
@Greengate7772 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectGranjaCaimito Perhaps a lined pond somewhere close to that well could function as a water reserve to be used only in high summer. Lined because that water is to be used at a specific time, so it needs to be there when needed. A solar thing could pump for weeks or moths on end to fill it.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
@@Greengate777 There is no way to have a lined pond at that location. The cavern of that well is pretty big. We are also pumping water out of day all day long to other places like the swale at CT02 (see map). We are basically doing what you envision.

You do realize that Maribel is a family pet now, don't you? You named it, you bottle fed it, you talk to it, it's a pet. As far as that calf is concerned, you are dada who brings milk.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
Yes. That was very clear from the beginning. Will be a challenge later on ;-)

Can you move around anywhere in the farm, with your car, or you use a horse?
@ProjectGranjaCaimito2 жыл бұрын
Originally I want to move around on horseback but with all the electric fencing that is too dangerous. So it is on foot or by car.

Passing thought: Tradition is the equivalent of inertia, isn't it? This is not a value judgement, just an observation. " We've always done things like this around here" can have value, if it is based on empirical and pragmatic observation of the environment (that is the origin of science), or it could be a ball and chain on the ankles, if it is based on human ideologies and dogmas.
