This is what I get when i watch attracting hummingbirds from a nursery in florida: none of the plants are in my hardiness zone 😂😂😂, well except the common milkweed. They grow on our property and we keep the ones that grow in the garden. But I enjoyed learning about these flowers so thanks.

Here Pennsylvania I planted a red hibciscus, red wax begonias, purple hypssops, red lips saliva, red sonic weigela, and low blue chips buddliea. So many butterflrd and hummingbirds. I love seeing them.

Right now, Sept 2022, in our garden in New Orleans the main attractions of the butterflies are zinnias. A cheap packet of seeds out performing the perennials.

I live near NOLA Zinnias were my mom favorite flowers. Maybe because were easy to grow and did indeed attracted butterflies

I get zebra long wings on my Jaltropha plants, but seem to get more gulf frittilaries on them. Either way, I love that plant. I am in western Volusia county, nearby.

To check toxicity to animals , your local extension service online will help with info. Ifas is for Florida but should have info on anything.

firespikes are awsome i have them against the fence hummers like them here in central fl. you can put some in a big container but it will wilt in the summer sun morning sun is good after that they melt.

I live in South Florida and got a firebush a few weeks ago and I already have aloe but have to figure out a way to get them to flower (I do plan on getting the other plants you mentioned as well). I'm starting to see butterflies wander around my garden once in a while but no hummingbirds yet, although I heard this is around the time they most hang out in our warm/hot climate. How long does it take after planting the plants you mentioned to attract them? Also, my Golden Retriever likes to stand a while to smell flowers (it's very sweet :D) so are any of these plants toxic for dogs to touch or sniff? Sorry for so many questions, haha! Thank you, Sir! Yes growing zones are very important. I am in Zone 9a so I have grown just about every plant he showed over the years. But what is confusion is California is listed as zone 9, too. But their climate is different than Louisiana & Florida.

This guy has no clue about native plants or their importance. For example, the blue porterweed he showed is the non native invasive one. Florida has a native blue porterweed.
