The 1951 article is incorrect it is well documented orchid hybridization was being well documented in the mid to late 1800's. All you need to do is look at the early books like The Orchid Review orchid hybridization was going strong here is a quote,"Our last volume furnishes a nearly complete list of crosses which have flowered up to the end of 1893" this is from The Orchid Review page 50, Orchid Hybridization, 1893. You can look at the Sanders list, so it totally creditable that Miss Agnes Joaquim was able to cross two orchids. It takes years to grow an orchid from seed at the time when only symbiotic method was the only method on average it took five to ten years to produce a blooming orchid from seed, so this totally debunk the 1951 article.
