Are you sure that's a root on the euphorbia? I thought it looked more like a pup
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Ahh! You're right it's probably a pup! That makes a lot more sense. Thank you!

Your channel just popped up in my feed. Wow you have a lovely cacti, Euphoria and succulent collection on your balcony. That ingens is gorgeous. I am on a hunt for the variegated one. Is it not hard to water the plants with different varieties in the pot? As they are different water schedules I guess is ok if they’re living outside. I usually pot cacti together or succulents together if doing an arrangement indoors. Do you bring them all in when the temperature drops or you cover them up in winter seasons? I started off collecting succulents and cacti at the beginning still bad at it from overwatering and they die. I am getting better at it now. Also only summer they thrive and winter they go dormant.

Thanks for stopping by, Mandi! I place my arrangements outside and haven't had issues mixing different varieties. When I put aeoniums (summer dormant) into arrangements, I only use the more hardy types. Since there's no frost in Sydney during winter, I never bring the plants indoors. Only specific cacti and euphorbia stay indoors as decor- in my experience, cacti and succulents just prefer being outside- but we have good conditions for it here in Sydney! I hope that helps!

Love your combinations! Lovely colours together. Rain is good but not too much, we have had about 8 inches in Qld so far, and more to come, hope all your plants survive!
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Thanks Francke! A lot of rain this past week. Not as much as what QLD have been experiencing. I think I've only seen 1 succulent rot so far. Having a chunkier substrate helps! Hope you're doing ok up north 💕

You are so creative and inspiring. I can’t wait for spring here in Tennessee, USA. Right now I have all of my cacti and succulents as specimens but having them all in little individual pots is getting to be a bit tedious. I’m gonna do some mixed arrangements this year!
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! I totally hear you on the individual pots. We do have a little collectors corner where we have a lot of small things in single pots, but it's so much more fun throwing plants into an arrangement!

Great collection and use of space! Can I ask what you use in you potting mix?
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Thank you Luke! I use a store-bought cactus and succulent mix and I add pumice, mineraland gritty mix and zeolite :)

Just wondering what soil mixture you use? Sorry if you've already addressed this question. Im in australia too and always interested in what soil mixture people use here 😊
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Always happy to answer questions! :) I use cactus and succulent potting mix, then I add pumice, mineraland gritty mix and horticultural zeolite. I keep the mix pretty gritty.

Yeah another video. I thought of you today Shy because I went to Roraima in Lara. I spent a small fortune, but like I told my husband I would prefer to support a small business like Roraima than Bunnings. I love your videos thank you so much.
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Aw, you are so lovely and kind, Maryanne; thank you for the sweet words. I couldn't agree more- while we do go to Bunnings a lot, the smaller, boutique nurseries feel more special and are essential to support. I hope you enjoy gardening with your haul from Roraima!

It's wild how being indoors for just a few days can cause succulents to engage in naughty behavior. Re-pots look great! I love agave potatorum. It's such a well behaved plant. Does your quadricolor not pup like crazy? My parryi loves to be a mother 🤣
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Yeah the etiolation surprised me! The ben badis was starting to go a little funny too. Shockingly, Quadricolour is not pupping! But I get a good number of babies with the potatorum and the dragon toes :)

The swollen root on the euphobia looks like an offset that grew downward into the soil . I might be wrong .
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Yep, it's a pup! Someone pointed it out right away and I totally see it now!
@stephenwilling72878 ай бұрын
Cacti can get swollen roots due to adaptation to drought. The xylem tissue, which stores starch and water, is what causes the root to grow larger. Overwatering is another common cause of swollen roots in cacti but it can be that the plant feels the need to store water and starch before a pending drought.
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Wow I did not know that! Thank you for sharing!
@stephenwilling72878 ай бұрын
Just watch for soft and mushy or black roots. As you know that would be a problem. 😁

Thats not roots on the euphorbia , I think they are baby plants, they start under the dirt and work there way up out of the soil.
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Yup, makes so much more sense and I totally see that now!
@morningstar81878 ай бұрын
Root swelling is caused by some nematodes. This is not the case here. The roots look normal. It’s not an offset.
@the.morning.chorus8 ай бұрын
Nematodes- that's the word I was looking for! I've seen that before in a plant and it totally looks different.
